  1. Woman tells how he survived tornado by hanging onto tree near Ellettsville, Indiana Nicole Rood tells how she survived a tornado by holding onto the door handle of a house as she was lifted off the ground in the 6400 block of West Cowden Rd., Saturday, June 16, 2019 near Ellettsville, Ind. Rood's boyfriend Brett Cantrell survived by hanging onto a tree across the road. The couple were in their car when the storm stuck, and exited their car to find a safe place. The tornado destroyed several homes, tore up trees, and left dangerous live power lines scattered around the area. https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/video/nicole-rood-tells-how-she-survived-a-tornado-by-holding-news-footage/1156231248?adppopup=true
  2. Ugh Pretty decent heat discharge on the Euro next weekend.
  3. Remember the Nino? It's still going, so the guidance from months ago that had it continuing through spring/summer appears to be correct. If I had a gun to my head, I'd say it's probably going to keep rolling right into next winter. But winter can hold off for like 6 months.
  4. Must be dumping tremendously in Kankakee right now. I noticed that even more moderate returns were producing very heavy rain during the day on Saturday.
  5. Wettest calendar day on record in June, just beating out 3.80" on June 7, 1963.
  6. Not only did IND break their daily rainfall record, they also broke their all-time record for any day in June.
  7. Not saying we will get a redux but the 8/24/2016 tornado fest occurred with a remnant MCV. Just shows what they are capable of in the more extreme outcomes.
  8. The discussion looked so official. There is the brown ocean effect in which some tropical systems have maintained themselves over land unusually long or even restrengthened, and it has been very wet in the region of course. But I'd think that a system of tropical origin is required. I remember the same thing with MCSs hitting the Gulf.
  9. Story from the local paper. A lot more like it
  10. I didn't realize how cool it got around here last night. A number of places dipped into the mid-upper 40s.
  11. It is 49 degrees at South Bend at 1 pm on June 13. 49
  12. Yeah it's pretty nasty. At least if we were setting a record low max then I could appreciate it from that perspective, but that won't be happening here.
  13. The average number of 82+ days by now is about 10 days. Rough and dirty estimate... could be off by a day or so. In any case, definitely running behind the average for those days.
  14. Was looking up some 100 degree stats for Chicago. It has been about 7 years since ORD hit 100. If 2019 fails to produce a 100 degree day, it would be the longest stretch without one since the 1960s (1961-1970 had none).
  15. Things might pick up a bit after the midpoint of the month.
  16. Extended looks wet... meandering front.
  17. How ugly is this in parts of MI/OH? Not sure about records being broken because the midnight high might be a concern, but this is probably about as cold as it gets during the afternoon in mid June.
  18. Looks like the earthquake occurred in the northeast Ohio seismic zone.
