  1. Yeah that system next week looks capable of some severe nosing into parts of the Mid MS Valley/Ohio Valley area.
  2. Imagine somebody from Florida or someplace like that being with family in Buffalo for the holidays. I mean talk about a shocking experience.
  3. Time for 2023 Drought thread yet?
  4. Actually have a 3 degree difference in anomalies between ORD and DTW right now (-2.9 to +0.2). ORD has put up multiple days between 20-30+ degrees colder than average during the recent cold snap, while it has been more muted at DTW probably due to lake influence. I'd agree that DTW will finish December warmer than average.
  5. Don't have a 2023 thread yet but depending how next week's system evolves, could at least get a severe threat into parts of the Ohio Valley...
  6. Looks like ORD will technically secure a colder than average December as I don't think there is enough time for the warmup to wipe out the negative anomalies. Unfortunately it will also be a month with less snow than average. The last colder than average December at ORD (2017) also had snowfall that was below average.
  7. Not sure it'll be right, but the HRRR is a bit more bullish for a good chunk of northern IL.
  8. The flaw with this map though is that it doesn't take into account how widespread the warning was. LOT had 1 county in the Blizzard Warning, but it still resets the count.
  9. Likewise. Nice to not have the this year, even though the rug got pulled out on the big blizzard for most people outside of the LES areas.
  10. White Christmas officially clinched at ORD for the first time since 2017... just barely with a snow depth of 1"
  11. One of these times it won't be, which is why it would be nice to bag a good amount of snow prior to then.
  12. Definitely not a great look for winter lovers. Maybe things get better beyond the first part of January.
  13. More stats for Chicago... 12/23/2022 is the 48th day on record with a high below 0, and the first such day since 1/30/2019. Of the 48 days with a high below 0, only 7 of them have occurred in December. December days with a high below 0: 12/28/1880: high -1 12/15/1901: high -2 12/13/1903: high -2 12/23/1983: high -6 12/24/1983: high -11 12/25/1983: high -5 12/23/2022: high -1
  14. It's official. High of -1 at ORD on Friday, making it the first December day to stay below 0 since Christmas 1983. Impressive stuff.
  15. How quickly you turned on it after riding it to the death with the blizzard.
  16. Still -1 at ORD. Assuming there wasn't an intrahour bump to 0, cue the drama. Not long until midnight now...
  17. That's the station pressure, which is not adjusted to sea level.
  18. I don't mean going out on the interstate. I'm in town and it was before the worst of the cold/winds arrived.
  19. What makes this especially dangerous is all the power outages. If you don't have a generator and you try to get to somewhere warm, there's a real possibility of getting stuck.
  20. One thing to watch is how quickly this starts to weaken as it heads east.
  21. Has he really reformed or is it just an audition to get on the staff?
  22. It looks like it has started snowing a little here again. Don't think it's just blowing snow. Models have been showing a wave swinging south/east around the low and reigniting snow around here.
