  1. I don't see how it won't (especially for people hanging out indoors) but we are on the upswing anyway so it may just blend in to the overall trends.
  2. We are getting too far off into politics.
  3. Italy's lockdown was sort of in between what China and the US did.
  4. Just one factor to consider, but the diabeetus could be playing a role
  5. Plus our election situation would throw fuel on the fire because one way or another, a lot of people aren't going to like the outcome.
  6. 51 deaths in IN, which is the first time over 50 since June 2. With the amount of hospitalizations we are getting, 50+ may become a weekly occurrence for a while on Tuesdays and maybe some other days.
  7. Maybe we wouldn't be talking about lockdowns if everybody would take this seriously. I don't think there is a clean end to this. We have come to tolerate about 15,000-40,000 flu deaths (sometimes even more) per year. If we can get this down to that level, then I think people will generally accept it as a part of our lives.
  8. Not quite. 4.6" on October 30-31, 2019. It was only the second time on record that measurable snow occurred on Halloween in Chicago, with 2014 (0.1") being the other year.
  9. To actually develop a new medicine (not something already in existence), trial it, then mass produce it... I can't imagine how long that would take.
  10. Was going off of the 5 min obs, which had 1 mile or less from 9:15 am to 11:11 am. Would've thought a favorable surface (such as a snowboard) would have picked up a little bit, but I guess not. I only care because it would have been the first time on record for Chicago to have measurable snow in 2 consecutive Octobers.
  11. One of the bigger breakthroughs would be if we had at home rapid result testing. And ideally at a cost that is dirt cheap.
  12. Officially a trace at O'Hare. You would think they had something measurable after being down to 0.75-1 mile visibility for about 2 hours. Guidance suggesting a little surge of precip/possible snow around here tomorrow morning.
  13. 10th anniversary of the Octobomb. Besides being about the deepest non-tropical system you will ever see in the lower 48, it brought a very unusual tornado outbreak from a temporal perspective. It got started after 4 am in Illinois and was basically over in this sub by noon. Not going to find many tornado outbreaks in the Midwest that fall in that time window.

  15. Lake co. with the daily high in cases again, despite Marion having twice the population
  16. Speaking of lockdown protests, Italy has had some significant ones in the past couple days.
  17. Snowing here... very wet flakes. Wasn't really expecting it to get this far east.
  18. Regarding El Paso... hospitalizations have gone up by 300% this month. Yikes. https://www.wfla.com/community/health/coronavirus/el-paso-residents-urged-to-stay-home-for-2-weeks-as-covid-hospitalizations-soar/
  19. I saw El Paso is doing some kind of stay at home thing. The spring type of closures should be a last resort. I think you have to target restrictions to higher risk places (sucks for them) and see how that goes.
  20. Yeah that seems like a popular theory... that it will go away. The virus obviously won't just go away and we should hope that the media coverage won't go away either as that would just result in more complacency.
  21. Europe is the place to judge the US performance against, imo. In late spring and summer, they showed what is possible when you get serious -- extremely low numbers. And now they are showing what happens when you relax and the weather gets colder. I don't think it is fair to compare the US to smaller countries surrounded by water.
  22. Gov Holcomb actually wanted a fine for people not wearing a mask, but the state atty general pushed back on it and it never happened (a factor could've been that there's some personal beef between the two which posters in IN may know what I'm referring to)
  23. Yikes. My experience when going into places has been that almost everybody is wearing one (maybe I should check a Walmart for an apples to apples comparison ) but some people definitely aren't wearing them properly. By the way, Lake county's daily case number was higher than Marion county today, so I can't imagine what it would be like if I routinely saw 50% of people not wearing masks.
