  1. Delays happen. I'd say the statement below could fuel some conspiracy theories though. A batch of votes came out of Philly that didn't have one vote for Trump. From Aaron Bycoffe at fivethirtyeight: And just as I wrote that, two more batches of Pennsylvania vote were reported: 23,277 votes in Philadelphia, all for Biden, and about 5,300 votes in Luzerne County, nearly 4,000 of which were for Biden. Trump’s lead in the state is now just below 6 points, with 83 percent of the expected vote in.
  2. Want to keep post-election commentary limited and narrowly focused. It's clear that we are a very divided country, and I don't see how any of this bodes well in terms of trying to deal with the virus in the coming days ahead. There's bound to be a lot of distractions at the federal level and media attention seems likely to be slanted toward matters related to election disputes. Meanwhile, covid-19 is out there and only getting worse. The good news is we still control our own behavior.
  3. Following the pattern since this began. Sun/Mon are the lower reporting days with a rebound after.
  4. So the first place he referred to ranks in the top 25% of population by county in Indiana. The other one (Jennings co.) is in the bottom half.
  5. IWXwx and I have heard opposite stories (his sounded worse than mine though). I guess it depends on where you are. Region by region or even county by county can vary.
  6. Speaking of which, today is a new statewide high for covid hospitalizations in IN.
  7. Covid hangs over just about everything in life. Unfortunately, not shocking that this isn't exempt.
  8. Over 80k today. Makes me think we might hit 110k later this week.
  9. Of course not. I am referring to Hurricane Eta.
  10. Just a little warning as we draw closer... No election talk please. Technically, nothing changes tomorrow anyway.
  11. Probably hard to know for sure but I wonder if tonight will be one of the most sleepless nights in America since right after 9/11. You can feel the tension. Just remember that no matter what, the sun will rise and we'll make it through.
  12. I think we have been doing worse on positivity rate pretty much since this began. We aren't running as many tests as Illinois even after adjusting for population. Illinois has run a little under 8 million tests and Indiana has run about 3 million. Illinois has just under 2x the population.
  13. The home gatherings/parties are a significant source of spread, but it's obviously harder to control those unless you go into a draconian lockdown.
  14. A little over 3,000 cases in Indiana today. Hadn't even had 2,000 before on a Monday so skipped right over that.
  15. There's a difference between November 1 and November 25 imo. There's a well known local guy who has a really elaborate setup with Christmas decorations and music... has been doing it for over 20 years and it draws thousands of visitors each season. He starts setting up right after halloween and then it goes "live" on Thanksgiving evening. That just feels more right to me, but to each their own.
  16. How Are Americans Catching the Virus? Increasingly, ‘They Have No Idea’ https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/how-are-americans-catching-the-virus-increasingly-they-have-no-idea/ar-BB1azq1G
  17. Reminds me of my mom. As soon as November arrives, time for the Christmas music. Too early imo.
  18. Number of deaths reported in Indiana on the last 6 Sundays (typically a lower reporting day as everyone should know by now) 9/27: 3 10/4: 5 10/11: 7 10/18: 19 10/25: 12 11/1: 32
  19. Which is why Thanksgiving is setting up to be a problem.
  20. Some people probably wouldn't be upset about not seeing certain family members.
  21. I just wanted to get my covid to weather post ratio down. It is like 20:1.
  22. Not sure what we are going to do in this country if we are at/near the brink on a widespread level as we approach Thanksgiving. There were the initial stay at home orders back in spring. There were also limits on group sizes, but the limits have been relaxed or even ended depending on where you are. The reality is that it's a numbers game and while any particular individual gathering that is "small" is not likely be attended by somebody carrying the virus, it happens. Considering there are a gazillion gatherings for Thanksgiving, it is a recipe for spread. You can do it more safely outdoors of course but even that is not completely safe and it's not really an option in a large part of the country. And then we go through it all over again in December.
  23. Take it up with the FDA I guess.
  24. ^only a partial shutdown in the UK though
