  1. JB (not that one) sounding the alarm. I'm sure this would go over well. Gov. Pritzker Says He Can't Rule Out Stay-at-Home Order in Coming Weeks "I'm not looking at the broader mitigation of stay-at-home as something I would do in the coming days or week, but I can't guarantee you what it looks like two weeks from now or three weeks from now - I just don't know" https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/coronavirus/gov-pritzker-says-he-cant-rule-out-stay-at-home-order-in-coming-weeks/2365433/?amp
  2. The packed in crowds standing still on the streets won't help, masked or not. I guess it is getting out of control anyway.
  3. Record day in IN with 5k cases.
  4. That statement by Gottlieb surprised me a bit. Early on we were catching about 1 in 10 infections at best, maybe not even that many, but it is discouraging to think that it could still be 1 in 5.
  5. We are months away from peaking, barring some interventions.
  6. About 55k hospitalizations nationwide, roughly 5k less than the summer peak.
  7. I think Dr. Birx has been touring the country. But overall it seems that states are on their own now more than ever. I will repeat what I said a while back though. Whether or not we eventually have a President Biden, there is only so much that can be done when a chunk of the population has never bought into all this and a lot of other people are just tired of it all. Europe is a prime example of what happens when you let up.
  8. Definitely heading over 120k with a shot at 130k.
  9. The same Eta that made landfall way down in Nicaragua as a category 4. Why not, because 2020
  10. The first 10k day of who knows how many.
  11. Not assigning blame to anybody in particular, but if mail-in balloting is going to become more and more popular (granted this election is probably going to end up being a bit of a fluke in terms of the volume of mail-in ballots), something ought to be done to speed up the process. Start processing earlier, etc. Whatever states like Florida and some others did seems to have worked pretty efficiently. We shouldn't have to wait 3+ days to declare an official winner even though it is obvious where this is going.
  12. Also hit 2,000 hospitalizations for the first time.
  13. A Missouri elections supervisor who knew they tested positive for the coronavirus and still worked at a polling site Election Day has died. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/missouri-poll-worker-positive-covid-19-still-worked-shift-died-n1246620
  14. For the sake of the nation and providing faith in the process, I think it would be better for Trump to come back and win in Arizona. Would delegitimize the argument about all the states switching late to Biden. But die hards will always believe what they want.
  15. We had about 92k last Thursday. Appears like we're headed for 115k or more today. Based on day to day trends and past trends on Fridays, I don't think we can rule out something like 130-140k tomorrow.
  16. Severe weather? What is this concept that you speak of? The question that jumps out at me right away is whether moisture return would be sufficient. Looks like a fairly typical dynamic system for this time of year though.
  17. About 75k with almost 20 states yet to report. Undoubtedly going considerably over 100k today.
  18. Today we had just over 0.1% of the total population in my county test positive. Does not sound like much but that is fairly significant for one day. That would add up to 3%+ if that rate continued for 1 month, and we are probably still only catching ~1/3 of cases which would make actual infections close to 10% of the county population in one month.
  19. By the way, Holcomb seems content to leave any decisions up to county officials. Obviously this is a change from how it was handled in spring when the decisions came down from the executive. Not sure whether that approach can be sustained in the long run, because we have 92 counties and it could get awfully confusing if/when counties choose to impose restrictions. No Indiana COVID-19 Policy Changes Post-Election, Holcomb Says https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/no-indiana-covid-19-policy-changes-post-election-holcomb-says/2364513/
  20. Can argue it has been going on for about 5 weeks, but the slope seems to be accelerating in the last 2 or 3.
  21. Statewide hospitalizations are starting to approach 2000. Sometimes it moves in a stairstep motion (whether that is real or due to reporting issues) but it should pass that mark in the next day or three.
