So the first place he referred to ranks in the top 25% of population by county in Indiana. The other one (Jennings co.) is in the bottom half.

IWXwx and I have heard opposite stories (his sounded worse than mine though). I guess it depends on where you are. Region by region or even county by county can vary.

Covid hangs over just about everything in life. Unfortunately, not shocking that this isn't exempt.

Probably hard to know for sure but I wonder if tonight will be one of the most sleepless nights in America since right after 9/11. You can feel the tension. Just remember that no matter what, the sun will rise and we'll make it through.

I think we have been doing worse on positivity rate pretty much since this began. We aren't running as many tests as Illinois even after adjusting for population. Illinois has run a little under 8 million tests and Indiana has run about 3 million. Illinois has just under 2x the population.

The home gatherings/parties are a significant source of spread, but it's obviously harder to control those unless you go into a draconian lockdown.

A little over 3,000 cases in Indiana today. Hadn't even had 2,000 before on a Monday so skipped right over that.

Which is why Thanksgiving is setting up to be a problem.

Some people probably wouldn't be upset about not seeing certain family members.

Not sure what we are going to do in this country if we are at/near the brink on a widespread level as we approach Thanksgiving. There were the initial stay at home orders back in spring. There were also limits on group sizes, but the limits have been relaxed or even ended depending on where you are. The reality is that it's a numbers game and while any particular individual gathering that is "small" is not likely be attended by somebody carrying the virus, it happens. Considering there are a gazillion gatherings for Thanksgiving, it is a recipe for spread. You can do it more safely outdoors of course but even that is not completely safe and it's not really an option in a large part of the country. And then we go through it all over again in December.

Take it up with the FDA I guess.

As has been posted, places in Illinois are defying the orders anyway. The defiance doesn't seem to be isolated either. Illinois has a list of outbreaks that has been kept secret up until now. They traced a lot of cases back to gatherings at people's houses and what not.
