  3. Man Allegedly Hid From Coronavirus And Authorities In Chicago Airport For 3 Months A California man was arrested Saturday and accused hiding in a restricted area of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport for three months. The man told police that COVID-19 had rendered him too scared to travel home to California, so he hid in the airport, surviving on food provided by strangers, the Associated Press reported. United Airlines staff spotted 36-year-old Aditya Singh and requested identification. They said he removed his mask and presented a badge, which belonged to an airport operations manager who reported it missing last October, the Chicago Tribune reported. https://www.npr.org/2021/01/18/958081547/man-allegedly-hid-from-coronavirus-and-authorities-in-chicago-airport-for-3-mont
  4. You know we're probably not getting out of it entirely. Less than 100% efficacy of vaccines plus the 30% of America or whatever the number is that will never take the vaccine will make sure of it.
  5. Based on your other posts, I'd have to see this to believe it. Hard to imagine that you wouldn't be upset about a thaw going from 10" to 5" of snowcover, or having snowcover but the grass starting to show around the base of trees.
  6. Thermals could be a problem in the end but it's definitely not over for us. Going forward, I think we can generally say that the pattern is more questionable if not hostile the farther southeast you are. Though some areas did cash in with a pretty good amount of snow in December, like parts of Ohio.
  7. Minneapolis had 9 days with highs 40+ in DJF 2019-20. Could you handle that? I mean, Chicago had 35 days of highs 40+ though.
  8. Since 1884-85... Median snowfall for Chicago is 34.1". Median snowfall for Minneapolis is 44.0".
  9. Did a quick check of snowfall stats. Chicago has had 46 winters with less than 30" of snow, while Minneapolis has had 25. The snowfall records go back to the same year for both cities, so over the period of record it's about 1 in 3 for Chicago and 1 in 5.5 for Minneapolis.
  10. I wonder how snowcover retention compares. But yeah, no way that beavis would feel satisfied with Minneapolis winters. An improvement, sure, but not the answer.
  11. Though I specialize in Chicago futility, I do other areas too. Indianapolis is currently sitting at 5.3" so far, which is less than half of average to date. But the least snowy winter on record was just 5.5" in 1918-19, so that record will not be broken.
  12. 3 of my relatives have gotten the first dose of vaccine. All 3 had some side effects. One had just a mild headache. Another had a more severe headache. The third person had a lot of fatigue. All of these resolved pretty quickly. Since they reacted to the first dose, I am figuring they are going to have side effects from the second dose as well, but hopefully nothing too bad. One of them goes for dose #2 next week.
  13. Not gonna worry about it but the extended looks more cuttery or flirting with cuttery than I'd like to see.
  14. Snow has been melting off of paved surfaces despite temps below freezing. The driveways/sidewalks are all clear from what I can see. Still don't have to shovel. Lol
  15. It has some things going for it, but seems kinda optimistic. I'd lean on the lower end of the map for here, which would be maybe 2"
  16. I still haven't had to shovel yet this winter. My seasonal snowfall is closing in on 6" but the biggest system was just over 2" and what has fallen has tended to not stick around on paved surfaces too long.
  17. Wait, so the map actually looked like that? Cause it appears to be fixed now.
  18. Nice edit. I was about to bash the GFSv16 into oblivion if that were the real output.
  19. Can't be that far off. Most other amounts in that area were 1.5" or less. The season still blows to this point even with some undermeasuring at ORD.
  20. I have good news. After 0.7" today, ORD is now up to 6.1" on the season.
  21. You made me look. ORD had 3.5" through 1/31/2013. A rally to get to 30" that winter would've seemed like a stretch, but it happened. At least it appears we are going to shake things up. Can't rule out a warm risk on some of these storms especially as we get into February but just give us some good activity to track.
