  1. Today was the best summer day we’ve had since July 4th. Finishing up a Wednesday-Wednesday vacation week and can’t complain the weather has been pretty close to perfect. Little cooler first couple days but I’m not a huge hot and humid fan and then good pool days past 2 days. Still a whole month of summer weather left!
  2. Anyone else seen this from History Channel? Thought it was really good. Told my kids were watching something “educational” and this was my pick tonight.
  3. 9:49am AFD from BUF… Some mesoscale guidance shows a few showers across the Southern Tier and in Niagara County(north of the lake breeze) but 12Z Buffalo sounding shows dry air in place and a cap at around 650mb so it will be a struggle for any convection to get going. yup…
  4. Wife’s friend went to Disney for 4th of July week. 2 days after getting home they all got sick (2 adults 2 young kids) ended up just being mild cold symptoms but all 4 of them tested positive, and both adults were vaxxed back in April/May. I think another spike is likely to happen in the coming months but from what you hear those that got their vax will only get minor symptoms if any. Might sound cruel but at this point those that wanted a vax got one, let’s just let this run it’s course and be done.
  5. That would mean ❄️ right? If I had to go and pick my way… freezing to death in an apocalyptic blizzard would be ok. Has anyone else ever seen this? Spock warning us of the coming ice age in the late 1970s. 30 straight years of declining Arctic temps. Waterways once open in the summer now frozen year round. We did a complete 180 flip on that 40 years later. The “Brutal Buffalo Winter could become common across all of the United States”.
  6. Those were legit “flash floods”. Towns were under 10’ of water in minutes. That one town where the 12 people drown on the first floor of the old folks home because they couldn’t get them all up to the second floor fast enough was crazy. Timing was also awful as the worst flooding in many towns was overnight and in many of the smaller towns the fire departments are the flood spotters to raise the alert on raising water. In the one case the firemen observed a wall of water rushing down from the mountains and couldn’t alert the town to get to higher ground fast enough. Hearing stories like that really makes you appreciate the weather service and system we have in the US.
  7. Impressive! At 6:02 PM EDT, Lewiston [Niagara Co, NY] PUBLIC reports HAIL of tennis ball size (E2.50 INCH). CORRECTS PREVIOUS HAIL REPORT FROM LEWISTON. GOLF BALL TO TENNIS BALL SIZED HAIL REPORTED IN THE TOWN OF LEWISTON.
  8. Surprised the pilots even tried landing through that… little dangerous…
  9. Anyone following that warehouse fire up by the Buffalo Airport. Been burning for 4 hours now. Company that makes PPE has storage there and guess has tons of nasty chemicals in the building burning.
  10. Ahhh I found my scratch notes in my notebook from last year! We didn’t start to question the Buffalo temps until mid - late August. I tracked the his and los at KBUF to 3 other sites within 2 miles of the airport. While the hi temps generally lined up right in line with the nearby stations it was noticed the lo temps at KBUF were consistently running running 3-6+ degrees above all the other stations every day. In early September KBUF acknowledged a calibration issue and installed a new temp sensor unit. No historical temp logs were adjusted but this likely caused corrupted temp data for a period of at least 4-8 weeks. no idea what the calibration procedures are or how often but the equipment is bound to fail at some point. If your saying SYR is showing higher than surrounding area max temps maybe the sensor fell off a mount and is exposed to direct sun now or something else silly that could be easily overlooked. Or maybe the parking lot attendants got tasked with the job this summer and are calling in the hourly temps eyeballing a stick of red Mercury. Who knows?
  11. WNY guys go check out the moon… it’s a orange / red shade with the smoke! My camera sucks so can’t get a good pic. Actually can start getting a whiff of a smoke smell in the air. Like a blanket of fog rolling across the lake!
  12. Nice. Place looks sold out? I wanted to try and get to one of those games before they leave, but not dropping $75 a ticket for the last series against Boston. Looks like a great night!
  13. Nice band setting up over the lake. Don’t know why but I get a feeling this could setup to be an impactful flood event somewhere in WNY next 24 hours.
  14. Would love to experience a good thunderstorm high up in a big city. Huge shelf cloud rolled through Toronto at sunset tonight and turned the sky red. Some neat stuff…
  15. Pretty decent little cell came through. No thunder or lightning but tons of rain.
  16. WOW. Seems like southern Ontario has had quiet of bit of severe weather so far this summer. They have nice looking storms on radar almost everyday.
  17. Meh… they haven’t hit the lake breeze kill zone yet…
  18. Training storms setting up along lake breeze boundary over southern Niagara County. Could be big time flood event if storms keep training along that boundary all afternoon. Setup much like Grand Island flood event last week.
  19. WOW! That’s the storm over the lake near Erie PA around sunset.
