  1. Snow flurries in New Windsor. Big puffy flakes!
  2. Can't panic if you expect total failure from the get go.
  3. Plot Twist: We get a 75 degree midnight high followed by warning level snow behind an artic front later in the day.
  4. As @wxmeddler mentioned, it's a team effort. We've had a lot of success partnering with organizations like volunteer fire departments, schools, and parks. This infrastructure is easily deployed and folks can realize a tangible benefit almost immediately.
  5. Only the op GFS and Euro erode the west coast ridge in the long run it seems. Evening else, even the EPS and GEFS, maintain or reinforce the -EPO.
  6. Did someone say trains?
  7. Light snow Reisterstown. Temp 37 and falling. The Dec 5th rule lives on!
  8. Sadly, yes. Wouldn't shock me if we all spike in the 70s for DCA.
  9. ^ Looks like a widespread 3 to 5 degrees below average. Nice.
  10. Don't look now, but the NAM wants snow squalls on Thursday morning from US 50 west.
  11. IIRC, Phase 7, 8, and 1 are our money phases.
  12. To illustrate the turbulence in the long range, the operational GFS trended between 10 and 18 degrees colder from 12z to 18z today for the Dec 10th event.
  13. Optimism? What did you do to the real Ji?
  14. I can absolutely understand the anxiety in the annual winter long range threads. Each year our window for any sensible winter gets smaller and smaller it seems.
  15. Last winter we were pulling ticks off our horse in January. Went back and looks at the data from my cooperative site and noticed we hit the mid 70s. . .
  16. Low of 22°. The four inch soil temperatures have really cooled off. Out petunias finally died with this freeze.
  17. Yup. All hail The King™ of snow storms.
  18. This is also mentioned in the Northeast Snowstorms books by Kocin and Uccellini. Some of our biggest "surprise" winter events were not detected until we got inside D4.
  19. Agreed. I wish operational guidance would stop at Day 7. Too much extrapolation beyond that. Let the ensembles take over after that.
  20. Wonder if the long range stuff is models reverting back to climo state? We saw that last year where beyond D10 guidance kept trying to advertise a solid pattern that never materialized.
