  1. Hope we can get this to bump back 24 hrs. I'm down at Wallops next Tuesday PM for my *hopefully* first Antares launch and the upper level winds would not be good right now.
  2. Yikes. Thank the gods we have 4 terminal dopplers nearby. Hopefully Infrastructure Week™ will fix this.
  3. I'm going to answer this publicly. Pros: Affordable, it's roughly $300, but with the one time code Tempest10off you save 10% so you can up the shipping to get it quicker and it still comes out to around $300. Ships quick. Purchased on a Monday, got it on a Friday. Had it set up that day. Easy to install. All you need is a 1 inch pipe to mount it flush with a fence post. The directions are on their website. Sighting of the instrument is as you would any other weather station. Easy to deploy. The station starts reporting within 3 minutes of being turned on. You can make a profile on wunderground and push the data there or to a personal website. The first day or two the data may be inconsistent, but within a week it'll sort itself out. There's a smart phone app so you know what the weather is like at your house and you can integrate it with certain smart home features. Nest is not yet one of them. Wind and temperature are highly accurate. We haven't had rain here yet so I can't talk to that. Cons: Their predictive weather algorithm is terrible. It's never been right, but I have NWS et al so I don't care. There is not long term storage of historical data (IE: highest temp, lowest temp, etc.). I've submitted that as a request for enhancement. There is no physical display that you can mount on a wall or a countertop. You have to use your phone or PC to view the data. I've submitted that as a request for enhancement.
  4. Hoping for good weather next Tuesday evening. We're driving to Wallops for the Anteres launch at 10:30 pm. Everyone in this sub forum should be able to see it, the Anteres is the bigger(est) rocket that can be launched from WAL.
  5. 37 this AM. Hoping to seed the first new lawn area on Monday.
  6. Watering the deck and was surprised to see no less than half a dozen monarchs. This front must be scooping up a bunch of straggling seasonal birds and insects and escorting them south.
  7. Was surprised by a hummingbird hitting the feeder hard today. Refreshed all the feeders and hoping to feed them.
  8. GFS has a monster cutoff low for the start of October.
  9. Wonder what, if any, impacts there are from the number of US landfalling tropical cyclones and temp/precip the following winter.
  10. A damn good thread on improving tornado warning accuracy, it includes a couple of radar grabs from Frederick County, MD. Big takeaway is this research so far is only valuable if the storm is within 60 km (37 mi) from the radar site.
  11. Got the wife hooked on fly fishing and caught my first two largemouth bass on the fly rod last weekend. Hoping to try Gunpowder Falls, Antietam Creek, and Beaver Creek next year.
  12. Sighting the instrument is the most important part, IMO. I have mine 6 feet above the around with nothing around the site in about 30 feet.
  13. You're probably right, it seems we are more like North Carolina climo or tidewater of VA these days.
  14. We have everything going against us into this winter. You'd think sooner or later the tables would turn and we'd have a shot for at least climo.
  15. Odd. It appears that Camp David (KRSP) is visible in my AWIPS II thin client, but not on GR.
  16. 44 for a low this morning in Reisterstown. My garden is abruptly coming to an end, I'm hoping we can salvage the last of our squash this week before ending things.
  17. Having a weather station depends on a couple of things, the most important being where you live. Since you own your home, you can sight an instrument wherever you like and not worry about rules of a condo or apartment. The size of your lot and exposure will have a bearing on wind and precipitation accuracy. Stations such as the David VP2, which are great, are more complicated and require the anemometer to be sighted usually at a location separate from the rest of the kit. I purchased the Tempest station from WxFlow the other week and it's been working great. It was $300, BUT WxFlow is offering 10% of right now if you use the code Tempest10off. This allows you to get better shipping and still come out around $300. I've linked my weather station to Wunderground (https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDREIST45)and so far the station is right in line with everyone around me. I will say the biggest shortcoming with the Tempest from WxFlow is that you don't have a wall display like you do with other stations, everything is on your phone or tablet. If this is critical for you, then I would advise against purchasing this particular device.
  18. Where in the sky and when can it be viewed?
  19. Cool. We're ripping out two garden beds that are just not successful and going to flatten out and seed with grass this weekend then.
  20. You can link to Wunderground and there's specific guidance they reference from WMO and COCORAHS on instrument sighting. Their interface is pretty nice too. Here's my station data: https://tempestwx.com/station/28172/
