  1. Agreed. The Pacific sets up the incoming trajectory. If it's coming from a bad angle, we're kinda cooked from the start.
  2. Agreed. December 2005 and 2009 were exceptions in this regard.
  3. 12, 15, 17, or 31 would really calm the room
  4. Energy transfer off Chincoteague at the same time. Storm should generate it's own cold air after that. Locked and loaded!
  5. Move that thing 50 miles SE and everyone wins.
  6. If we end up with less snow, we reserve the right to sacrifice you to the gods for next winter.
  7. Yes. By this time last year, it was clear we were headed to a record low snowfall winter. This year people are jumpy after having nearly 3 consecutive shut outs years. With that said, the AO is definitely trending in a better direction and while it's been some shots of cool air, we aren't in a sustained 50s to 70s in December. There is absolutely nothing worse than 60s on Christmas in the mid latitudes (well except for 34 and a driving rain).
  8. The lack of any cold air in the CONUS this year is stunning.
  9. It is. If I ever retire early, my wife and I plan to nobo the Appalachian Trail.
  10. We went up to Northport, ME for a wedding 2 years ago, then drove to Bar Harbor for 3 days. Incredible experience, but too close to the coast. I'd move to somewhere between Milo and Millinocket if given the chance.
  11. I mean, it was a sarcastic post in the banter thread. I wasn't being a deb. It's a La Ninna year so I'm keeping myself based in reality. Hoping to move to Maine someday and finally see winter again.
  12. Well that was our 60 minutes of winter. Good stuff folks, catch ya next year!
  13. ^It's snowing and the horses have flipped upside down. We truly are in the end times.
  14. Updated BOX AFD for posterity. Enjoy y'all. I'm living vicariously through this thread:
  15. CAE extending the Winter Storm Watch into Bangor. Going to warnings now N&W of I-95:
  16. We do rain, wind, and humid well here.
  17. Not anymore. I'll take anything. Especially if there's snow near Christmas.
  18. There is no such thing as the 540 0° line. 540 is thickness, 0° is temperature.
  19. This and the verified tornado in Montgomery County, PA will verify the tornado watch box. Good job NWS / SPC.
  20. This is a good advance, IMO. Here's a link to the full release which shows that RAOB and commercial aircraft data will be added as well: https://www.weather.gov/media/notification/pdf2/scn20-46rapv5_hrrr_v4aab.pdf
  21. Dec '89 was great, then the rest of the winter went sucko. But compared to last year we'll take anything at this point.
