  1. A fertilizer spike and a protective covering would go a long way to save your Rhododendron.
  2. 80 in NW DC at 7pm this evening.
  3. It's really amazing that we have places like North Carolina, with the growing research triangle and Carolina Alley along with Florida with it's increasing hurricane risk and population growth that are just being ignored by Congress. You'd think a couple of senators would be able to get a bill in to at least cover these areas. I know that NOAA/NWS has been doing a metric ton of work to address this stuff but you can only go so far with the hard scrabble budget they're given.
  4. Saturday has good potential if the timing works out.
  5. As part of the NWS Hazard Simplification (HazSimp) process the HWO will cover the Days 2 - 7 threats.
  6. Personally, I'd like to see the NWS start filling the radar gaps in the country (NC, FL, etc.) and use the opportunity to make the new radars phased array instead of the WSR-88D. You can build a site from scratch for the new technology, fill long standing gaps, and see how it compares in the field to existing tech.
  7. Ship deviated from the main channel, but it's not out of the realm of possibility it played a role.
  8. We stood the chance for a cold powder Christmas snow. That makes any missed snow sting doubly.
  9. Low of 16°. Quite refreshing.
  10. La Nina winters really bring out the nuances of forecasting snowfall in this area. When you have blockbuster years like 2009-2010 it's tougher to distinguish the importance of what 100" in elevation or being one county too far west/east can have on a forecast event 12 hours out.
  11. Down to 24. Light snow, winds steady. Really impressed with this event.
  12. Grew up in Roxborough...that part of the city you're in is a snow desert. Worse than DCA.
  13. Yea this is easily the heaviest of the day here. 140 @ Hammershire is closed for wires down so hopefully that's it for the wires going down.
  14. Snow is really cranking now. Easily the heaviest of the day and the winds are getting up there as well, just gusted to 21 mph on the home weather station. Temp down the 26°....amazing cold air advection for midday in March.
  15. Down to 30 in Finksburg. @Mrs.Jmy wife is getting her first horse lesson in a snowstorm.
  16. Heard a big boom behind my.house and power pulsed. Trees starting to sag. Temp down to 31.
  17. Delayed, but the 12z RAOB from IAD is a thing of beauty. No pesky warm layer, hence the "clean" transition.
