Alaska has had a lot of un-Alaska like winters lately.

At precisely 5:05pm yesterday, the temperature in Fairbanks, Alaska reached 33 degrees. This marked the first time the temp climbed above freezing since October 31st, 2025. 153 consecutive days below freezing. You needed to know this.

Couldn't disagree more. We just had a couple of very warm days and the next 2 days will be WAY above normal with potentially record heat on Saturday. March ended well above normal. Sorry.

That first batch lasted all of 4-5 minutes if that. When it started, my wife looked at me and said "what is THAT"? I knew, opened the front door and she said "wow!" Here's your disparity in a single picture:

Picked up .54" of much needed rainfall last night. Super pleased. Breezy and 47 currently.

Huh. I haven't seen a single forecast of sustained warm weather. Everything I've seen indicates we have at least a couple more weeks on the rollercoaster.

Local mets are really downplaying this potential. I watched a few of them over lunch and they all thought any severe threat would be extremely isolated.

March stats are in from Lanco: There were certainly more "ups" than "downs" on the wild March 2026 temp rollercoaster, and those "ups" were also much more significant than the "downs." As a result, it concluded as the 8th-warmest March on record.

A ridiculous low of 65 this morning. No rain at home or at work but a pretty good shower fell in between. Anyone see any snow piles left when you're out and about? Columbia Borough still has a pile about 2-3' deep in a vacant lot along the river. Last week at this time it was at least 5' so I'm not sure it has another week left in it or not. Still impressive considering how long it's been since it's snowed and how warm it's been over the past several weeks.

I miss your monthly temp prognostications. Where will March end up?

A few days ago, this coming Saturday looked like a damp, dreary day with highs potentially staying in the 40s. It now appears that we'll set a new record high with temps in the mid 80s. In fact, 3 of the next 5 days could feature 80+ readings in the LSV.

Happy birthday, little snowmanette! Our youngest will be turning 25 this year. Holy crap. She was actually due to enter the world on 9/11/2001 but the day's events were enough that she came a few days later. Just hard to believe that was 25 years ago. Where does the time go?

I was at the Flyers game last night. Probably the loudest I've heard the center since the 2010 dream run to the Cup finals. Still nothing compared to the Spectrum but it was nice enjoying a true home ice advantage last night. Even better that the team didn't lay an egg - they have been infinitely better on the road all year. Also, Ersson has found it. He's been a completely different goalie since the Olympics. Right now Rick can feel somewhat comfortable starting both netminders.

I've had 13 days this month with temps above 60 degrees. 7 of them were 70 or higher. Tomorrow will make it 14 days (45% of the month) above 60, 8 days (26%) higher than 70, and quite possibly my 4th day in the 80s. I don't recall another March like this one in my entire life.

Certainly feel the same about March. Way too much very warm weather way too soon.

MU Weather adds this: (an actual preview of summer as we transition from March to April) A well-defined warm front will move through the Commonwealth from southwest-to-northeast Monday night and be accompanied by a few showers. Behind it, temperatures will likely be "off to the races" on Tuesday and Wednesday and soar back into the upper 70s to perhaps mid 80s. Record high temperatures on the last day of March and first day of April are generally in the low-to-mid 80s, so they may be challenged during the middle of next week with enough sunshine. Overnight lows will also be ridiculously high for this time of the year (50s/60s) and more typical of June. Temperature departures on Tuesday/Wednesday will be 20-25°F above normal.

Thank you for sharing! I can't and won't argue any of that. And as I mentioned I think twice in my post, recency bias is something that I can struggle with. Sounds like our perception/opinion for the "true" winter months of December through February are quite similar, it seems like March is the month we have differing viewpoints of. As you mentioned, it can and hopefully will be a great discussion.
