  1. @ChalkHillSnowNut: I know you've been here in our thread some lately, how much snow did you end up with earlier this week? Congratulations on whatever amount you got!
  2. I think that sums this situation up perfectly, agree with every word of this. I bolded the section that resonates best with me, and that is why we've been talking about patience. We're still early in the hunt, and for those of us in the lowlands to get snow, we need moisture AND a well timed, fresh cold airmass. The cold of the past few days is moderating and moving out. It's not nearly enough for this weekend.
  3. I took a chance with that one - I was a huge fan of him at PSU. I know he rubs some the wrong way with his homerun swing after throwing a TD pass, but the guy is a winner. All you have to do is look what's happened since he left Happy Valley to appreciate the impact he had on the program. Very happy he got a chance to play the last 2 series today.
  4. Speaking of Trace, McSorley with his first NFL TD pass today.
  5. Red zone defense is keeping them in the game. Steelers with 6 points on 3 trips instead the 10 yard line.
  6. Maybe this is finally the western part of PA's long-awaited winter?
  7. Nothing here at home. Friend in northern York county had a cartopper.
  8. Just realized that I'm under a slight risk for severe this afternoon. In the meantime, a large area of moderate to heavy rain is moving in from the south now.
  9. You my friend, of everyone in here, should be able to stake the claim of having the first yard to be obscured by snow. I'm glad I was able to help you see your long-term omission. When I was younger (okay, even today) I always thought it wasn't a real snow until the grass disappeared. For my yard, that's usually about 2". Another rule of thumb for my area, when a storm goes west of my location I can probably count on one hand the number of times I held on to snow long enough to eclipse 2". Just doesn't happen no matter what the models say unless there is some really significant CAD, AND the airmass is exceptionally dry going in.
  10. If I remember correctly I had 53 consecutive days with snow cover. Nothing even close to that since. That winter was special.
  11. I feel like a true snow weenie looks for competitive advantages when it comes to creating the perfect winter landscape. Being the first to have the yard disappear is step #1. The other thing that I did, and something that Daxx does, was to prohibit the kids from playing in the backyard when they were younger. A good bit of my yard is shaded, and to help preserve the perfect snowpack, I didn't want my snow trampled, rolled, scooped, etc. An untouched yard was essential! Shoveling snow into 2 huge piles is another tradition - I consistently have the last piles of snow to melt in the 'hood. Admittedly, it's getting harder for me to stack it up at the age of 55. And of course, I'm always a fan of getting a nice layer of sleet on top of my snowpack. It's the best way to achieve pack preservation.
  12. Oh, you can laugh away! I've had the same neighbor since I bought my house 20 some years ago, and he knows the drill. He asked me a couple of days ago when the annual snow mow was taking place...
  13. Just finished my annual "snow mow" - anyone else do this? I cut my yard extra short heading into winter so that my yard is the first in the neighborhood to be completely covered by snow. (no grass showing) It does wonders for my soul.
  14. That's what I've been thinking. I know there was talk about later this upcoming week, I thought for our area it was too rushed. Patience...
  15. Today was a blessing that the weather was so nice - our family enjoyed a non-traditional holiday outside and distanced from loved ones. Great day all the same.
  16. Unfortunately, yes. It sure looked for a while like your area in western PA might finally get something decent, but it seems likely that this next storm cuts and rains on most if not all of PA. Hang in there - you good people out there are overdue. Your time is coming!
  17. I rather strongly agree with you. I think those south and east of the ridges have a chance as we get into the 2nd week of December.
  18. The 3 worst scenarios for you and me during any given winter: 1.) A Miller B that intensifies off the NJ coast. 2.) An Alberta Clipper that runs west to east across the turnpike 3.) Expecting wraparound snow, from well...anything
  19. I really hope things work out for you soon Steve. I've been extremely fortunate, appreciate it, and really feel for those that haven't been as fortunate as I've been.
  20. That seems to be the consensus right now... However, if we can find a way to fail in a good pattern, there's no reason to think that we can't score in a bad one. 95-96 wasn't a good pattern until I scored 42" in 5 days.
  21. Gorgeous day today. If it's not going to be wintry, this is perfect.
  22. I was a senior in high school here in Lancaster county during the '83 blizzard ...I recorded 5" of snow between 4pm and 5pm on 2/12/83. That was the heaviest hourly total I've witnessed in my 55 years.
  23. The great Canderson windstorm of 2020 has arrived here in the historic district. The whole house is shaking. Some of these gusts are crazy!
