Radar does look very good to our west - it's going to come down to temperatures and how far we can fall below freezing at onset.

33/28 here now - I expect zero icing on roads in this area. Perhaps some glazing on trees and power lines for a few hours later tonight. I think you need to get up in the MSV until there's issues of significance. Not unexpected.

24 hours later, CTP isn't looking so bad for waiting to hoist advisories.

Latest from Elliott at MU: I created a "Wintry Mix Timeline" to depict arrival times of sleet/frz. rain this evening. Areas along & south of the PA Turnpike may only see a 15-30 min. period of #sleet before a transition to #ice, while areas north of the Turnpike receive up to 0.5" of sleet. #pawx

CTP has removed sleet from my forecast other than a 20% chance before 8pm. All precip I do get is expected to be rain or freezing rain.

Not good. I'm now at 35/26. I could say more but won't. LOL

Thanks for posting both the temp and dewpoints - I'm at 34/24 at home right now. Have a hard time believing I drop much below freezing this evening. We'll find out soon enough.

There was never to be much of anything during the daylight hours. In fact, as recent as yesterday, some forecasts for today included sunshine. If anything, today has "overperformed"

I certainly can understand that.

I'd think you'd experience a pretty high impact event up there.

Back to my CTP comments last night - it's tough to make decisions today. I have a lot of single parents working here who are in a huge bind when schools are closed. I'm very sensitive to that. But, there's still a business to run, and we have a lot of institutions like hospitals, nursing homes, and schools that are depending on our delivery. It's not an easy balance.

My message I'm communicating here at work is "go slow" instead of "don't go".

Oh, I get it. Not arguing that at all. Flip side of that - say CTP issued a watch or warning tonight and tomorrow night is a nuisance event. Another reason for people to not pay attention to watches/warnings anyway. (which a lot of people already do ignore) The people that get bent on watches and warnings are the people reading this right now. My family has no clue what the difference between a watch and a warning is, and they're all adults.

Everyone making comments tonight are very good points. Frankly, they're hard to argue. And as @MAG5035 suggested, at least throw out blanket watches early to get the word out. The only word of caution I'll add is that we have been down the ice skating path many times over the years, and many of those events failed to deliver anything close to what models suggested. I'm guessing that's why the hesitancy on CTP's part. Sure, we can question them all we want, but if there is any type of verification grade assessed to forecasts - (I honestly don't know) I know I'd be very hesitant to make a decision until I had to. Goodness knows that I've been scrutinized plenty of times at work for pulling the trigger on some decisions and not pulling the trigger on others. It's not easy when you're in the hot seat.
