Ideally this would be a place that is laid back and friendly. Their is plenty of opportunity to be ugly, sarcastic and demeaning on the OT board. And that is the intended spot for political convo. I was careful with my thread tags in the title and purposely left out politics but I have shared my personal viewpoint in what was hopefully a very honest and respectful way. There were multiple people who asked for this, and at least one asked for it a couple of years ago. I thought it was time to break out as I really want to keep our little community intact. If someone checks in to see what's happening with the weather and has to wade through 40+ posts just to find something weather-related, I'm sympathetic to that. -

Welcome! You and Sauss were both posting about the same event (PSU Wrestling) in 2 different threads earlier. -

I'm kind of surprised that the NFL is back in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. Maybe this is unfair for me to say since I've never actually been in the building but I've always thought that the Superdome seems like a tomb. It comes across on TV as being very dark and uninspiring inside. Old too. A lot of the newer buildings are much brighter and vibrant...Ford Field, the place in Indy Atlanta, NRG in Houston and SoFi in LA are all "better" than the Superdome. And the Vikings place looks amazing. -

Right, that makes sense. Well, some of the trends for rain today are troubling. -

Did you say that the NWS Point and Click forecast is auto-generated? If so, I wonder how it's derived? My forecast was just slashed in half again. It's now showing a tenth to a quarter inch total. Earlier this morning it was a quarter to a half inch. Last night it was a half inch to an inch. -

MU Weather Center 1/2 Once again, northern MD, southeastern PA and the LSV are caught in a dry pocket between heavier rain in VA/WV and light rain across northern PA and NY. However, I still expect a period of steadier rain between ~1-7 PM before it tapers off from W-to-E between 7-11:30 PM. 2/2 Due to this "dry slot," rainfall totals in most areas will now only range from 0.25-0.50", and that's unfortunate given the ongoing, moderate-to-severe #drought. -

That's an understatement. I don't ever remember a period of time when MDT was consistently, significantly colder than me. It really hasn't mattered what season it was, I'm colder than MDT 95%+ of the time. Until January 2025. -

If our forecast today was to be snowy, can you imagine what the weather thread would be like? Essentially, we were pretty much expected to get the equivalent of 5-10" of snow as of last evening, and now it's more like 2-5". We always remember the pain of busted snow forecasts but it does happen with rain events as well. -

Enjoy Jon! I'm not sure what we're doing tonight but it won't be much of anything. Honestly, staying snuggled in sounds amazing right now. -

37 this morning with just .03" of rainfall thus far. Our forecasted amount has been slashed by 50% already. Something to keep in mind over the coming weeks...this was to be a moisture-laden event that's fizzling at the last hour. -

I was disappointed by who uttered it though! Sure seems like some wild times in February. We're going to be flirting with really cold and pretty darn warm in close proximity to us. -

I neglected to mention in my post, and I was thinking about it - the irony is that flying is indeed much safer now than it was when I loved to fly. Youth, or being a young adult I think allowed me to have a more carefree attitude back then. I am probably an anomaly. I am a registered R, consider myself to be at the very least moderately conservative, but my vote does not always reflect that. I feel that the person in the highest office should live to a very high standard. At least that's what's important to me. And he falls woefully short of that. I was told for months to "vote policy" but I'm sorry, the highest ranking official in the country had better damn well be a good person. -

Clean sweep potential at the de facto site. Us Lanco folk had an AN December. (I honestly have no idea where my house fell in line with respect to normal) -

A nice moderate snowstorm followed by snow on the ground for over a week helped mask how dry January has been. Even though we've enjoyed a wintry month, under the band aid, the dry weather pattern has very much lived on. We're fortunate that we capitalized on the few legit snow chances we've had. -

Ironically, 2 days ago I was reading a random story about high winds blowing a truck over on it's side on the Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia, the bridge that I take directly to the stadium complex. Apparently, the truck driver and his dog were trapped precariously close to plunging into the river when a guy jumped out of his car, climbed on top of the side of the truck and was able to pull out both the driver and his pet. I think this happened just a few years ago? There are still some heroic people around today. Edit: I just found the story! https://www.hand2shouldercenter.com/helping-hands-dr-adam-strohl-and-wysem-irby-rescue-driver-on-girard-point-bridge/ -

His exact quote to defend his stance was "because I have common sense, that's why." As a conservative, it's nothing short of an embarrassment.
