  1. I wanted to mow yesterday but it was just too wet. It is as green as green can be here at the moment...but yes, it won't take long at all before things start to flip back. I'm always amazed at how quickly things dry out. And I guess it would dry out even quicker minus the mid-summer humidity?
  2. 50 degrees here this morning. My yard...I have not mowed since last Tuesday. The grass this morning might be the highest it's been since we moved to Maytown 24 years ago. If it was ever longer, it's been years. I'll be mowing this afternoon, hopefully before my neighbor down the road comes to check on me to see if I'm okay.
  3. Seeing lots models depicting a warm December, so also roll out the "December is now actually fall" discussion.
  4. Wow... Well, I think a lot of us thought this might be coming as payback for our pleasant summer.
  5. I was up in Potter County during that Nebraska game and was trying in vain to get it on the radio. I heard just enough of that final TD in the closing seconds to wake up the mountainside.
  6. Possible...the Phillies can rake, will they be able to outscore opponents is the big question. The Orioles...I am the LAST guy in the world to act like a homer. Most people say that I'm way too pessimistic when it comes to my teams, especially the O's. Usually, pessimism wins out though. I will say this - that team has consistently exceeded everyone's expectations. when Mike Elias took over as GM in 2018, he felt it would be about 7-8 years before the team would seriously contend. We're in year #5 and they're on the verge of 100 wins in a pretty fair division. The team has set an all-time franchise record (think about that for a sec) of 52 wins this year ON THE ROAD. Longest losing streak is 4 games, and they have not been swept in a series for a year and a half. Think about that too. Like the Phillies, and outside of Grayson (who has been pitching like an ace down the stretch) the pitching is...good, but their are better staffs to be sure. Getting Bautista back at the back end of the bullpen would help. Cano really thrives in the setup role. Honestly, having this conversation 2 years removed from a 52-110 season is nuts. I'm enjoying every minute of this ride and this season has already been a complete success.
  7. RIP Brooksie - what an incredible player, and by all accounts...an even better human being. What a bittersweet time to be an O's fan right now.
  8. Magic number is 2...and the Red Sox are making a game of it up at Fenway...
  9. I was fortunate as a kid to see #5 play at the very end of his career. He epitomized everything good about baseball, and as a human being, he made our fanbase so very proud of him. For as long ago as retired as a player and then later as an announcing partner of the late, great Chuck Thompson...this news greatly saddens me. Brooks was all class, all the way. Baltimore lost a great adopted son today.
  10. I actually think we have a better shot at beating Michigan if we lose in Columbus - I say we go 1-1 against the 2 of them. Just a sports fanatic's hunch.
  11. Back in those days, a PSU football game on TV was a rarity. Only chance was when ABC would pick up a meaningful game (like my first game) but other than that, it was listening on the radio. We're spoiled now.
  12. This was my senior year of high school. Neither of my parents went to Penn State and neither were interested in taking me up when I was growing up. Nonetheless, I followed them from a young age, mostly by listening to Fran Fischer on the radio and watching "TV Quarterbacks" on WITF, a 30 minute weekly review of Penn State's games with Joe Paterno. Beaver Stadium has changed a little since my first game. Have to admit, I miss looking out at Mount Nittany...
  13. I'd say 25 of the games that I've seen have been against weaker teams. However, my first game was in 1982 against #5 Pitt, whose QB was a guy named Dan Marino. I've also seen games against Wisconsin when they were in the top #10 as well as USC in 1994 when I sat directly behind Franco. Here is my introduction to PSU football - game was on Black Friday and I was in complete awe: (you might also recognize the play by play announcer from 41 years ago) Oh, and yes! I've never seen my beloved Lions lose in person.
  14. Travis Kelce jersey sales are up nearly 400%. If you want one, you better act swiftly.
  15. At the very least the flow aloft would suggest perhaps a return of weather like today for Thursday night and early Friday. Start of next week looks quite warm - 80s quite possible a week from now.
  16. Haha! Well, App St. actually has a very proud history and have dominated the Division 1-A field in the past. In my 33 games that I've attended in person, I'm 33-0 now. The App. State game was easily the closest we came to losing. App. St. took the lead with 1 minute left before McSorley took the team down the field to tie it, then won it in OT.
  17. I have several family members that live in Lewes - actually on the main road leading towards the park. I've been to Johnnie Walker beach before, LOL. The winds there are usually a little stronger than surrounding areas, assuming because it is a "cape" that sticks out there a bit. We absolutely love to ride bike through that park.
  18. No Iowa fans super close to us but I think about that every year...when fans come in from the visiting school, what are they thinking? We were at the PSU-App St. game back in 2018. We had Mountaineer fans all around us, and it was one of the best events I've been to. A LOT of super classy people from Boone, NC were in attendance and it was so much fun conversing with them. They were gawking the entire day at the PSU atmosphere.
  19. Sounds like my 10" of rain OBX trip of 2020 - hopefully you still had fun.
