  1. You're not alone - I was a freshman in high school in Millersville (PA) and was sitting in math class when the teacher came out of nowhere and slapped his hand down on my desk. Scared the living shit out of me. He said "Michael, stop staring out the window...haven't you seen snow before?" Jerk move by him.
  2. @mitchnick - you have any recollections of the 1979 October snow event? Not sure where you were living at that time.
  3. Also interesting to read (and this type of information wasn't available to me in 1979) that some areas NW of Baltimore actually picked up 2-3" of snow on this date. Incredible.
  4. Saw a mention of this in the MA thread and instantly remembered...44 years ago today, I measured 1" of snow on this morning. Game #1 of the World Series in Baltimore was postponed on this night because of snow and cold. I was 14 at the time and didn't fully realize then how incredible it was to have measurable snow this early. Edit: the date that I measured 1" of snow was actually the morning of the 9th. Game #1 was played on the 10th after being rescheduled. Double edit: Never doubt my stats - the snow fell the morning of the 10th. I confused myself.
  5. Perfect setup for him - he lives in Houston but will be in Arlington all week on business. This all fell right in his lap.
  6. 2025 Penn State gets both southern Cal teams back to back to end the season.
  7. 74 in Maytown currently, 6 degrees lower than the same time yesterday.
  8. Arapahoe Basin in CO had measurable snow 3 weeks ago, and it's snowed several times since. And of course, the 6" that fell on that "Big" mountain out in CA.
  9. I think that is basically 3 years ago - I did not shovel during the winters of 2021-22 and 2022-23. This approaching winter is the 3rd since that storm. It's like referring to 2010 to 2020 as a 10 year period...it's actually 11. Sometimes that confuses me and I love numbers.
  10. No no no no no! Trust me, I protect my fridge! Already down to 67 here now.
  11. Game #1 of the ALDS at OPCY is set for Saturday at 1pm. (exact time for first pitch TBD)
  12. Never been there so no help but want to say get well soon. My wife was sick back at the end of August and it took weeks for her to get her strength back...every time she'd exert herself she could tell that she wasn't right yet. Take it easy...
  13. 79 here as well - hasn't gotten above 80 here over the past 4 days which has been a pleasant surprise. I imagine I'll tack on a couple of degrees this afternoon and reach 81-82 or so. But you're right, just stepped outside after an all-morning meeting and it feels like the mid 80s to me.
  14. For all of the baseball fans, here's a shocker! https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/umpire-angel-hernandez-finishes-regular-season-with-worst-rating-in-mlb 161 missed calls in 10 games? That's big league stuff right there!
  15. I haven't either. I think we're going to do well this year. Also just a hunch with a positive spin because; well, I'm 58 years old and have never gone this long without shoveling. We're due.
