  1. Thanksgiving morning that year was pretty chilly - wife and I were walking the river trail and it was interesting to see hardly anyone out there and the few that were had dressed like it was the frozen tundra. Without looking, I think the high that day was only in the low 20s (?) with wind chills MUCH lower. I even sported a sweatshirt that day on the trail since wind chills were at or below zero.
  2. Almost identical experience for me - likewise, I have a 20 minute commute and it took me 2.5 hours to get home the day you're referring to. I even waited a while to leave work that day to give road crews a chance to catch up. Nope. That actually was my worst drive home commute...ever.
  3. Not really - I stated that I was making guesses for fun. I think there will be a lot of storms with a lot of moisture and areas N&W of me should do well. If IPT ends up with 32", so be it. I'm not afraid to make a guess - I'm not a met. Just a thought based on the advertised pattern, history, and my instincts. So, what are your numbers? I put myself out there...your turn.
  4. I hope so too. It adds to the holiday preparations. I love snow best during this time of the year when the sun angle is low and daylight is reduced. I'm in Florida for an extended time in early December. Get your shovels ready!
  5. I left the post as is intentionally, I did not want to add any commentary. Anyone who reads can take away what they want.
  6. MU's thoughts on the upcoming pattern and snow chances: https://www.millersville.edu/weathercenter/forecasts/weather-discussion.php
  7. Anyone interested in making 2023-24 seasonal snowfall guesses for fun? (I don't have the time to compile and track everyone's guesses, but I'll provide mine for 4 terminals in our area): IPT: 58" MDT: 37" LNS: 29" THV: 33"
  8. If anything, the Packers might be better. They have more talent at a lot of positions. I certainly see it. I suspect that the lack of talent catches up with the Steelers in the coming weeks. Also - through 10 weeks, the Steelers have played only 3 away games. Things could potentially flip very quickly...
  9. Oh yes, I go through that intersection twice every day. I hesitate to share stories like that, fearing that I'll sound like the proverbial grandpa telling the kids about walking through waist-deep snow...
  10. That has been my biggest disappointment over the past 20 or so years. Even when we get a nice snow pack, it seldom lasts. I mentioned here a week or 2 ago, I had 3 feet of snow on the ground on 2/10/2010. 5 days later my south exposed yard was toast. How does that much snow melt in 5 days? I had 2 feet of snow cover in mid-February, 1983 and it lasted a full 2 weeks. If we don't get snow in late December or early January it's going to take an anomalous air mass for it to have any lasting power.
  11. To both of your points - There were 2 HUGE penalty calls on Sunday that affected the outcome. BOTH went against Green Bay. The PI call early on was NOT a flaggable offense. And then the backwards pass from Pickett that was called incomplete when it should have been a GB touchdown...just 2 really, really bad calls and both went Pittsburgh's way. Perhaps a typical fan would say "yeah well, we usually have all the calls go against us, so we were due anyway" while I was saying "those calls likely cost GB the game." It's just the way it went and I'll be honest enough to call it the way it was.
  12. I think that's probably a true assessment about most diehard fan bases. Our oldest son is an Eagles fan and is constantly telling me how the fans are ripping the team on social media for not winning in an "acceptable" manner. As far as Pittsburgh specifically...In fairness...I think most football fans outside of Steelers Nation would say that this edition of the Steelers isn't very good. They've been out-gained in every single game this season. And yet, they're 6-3. As someone who spent a lot of time in Lanco in the past, what are your thoughts for our area this winter?
  13. Yes, and they compliment each other very well. Nice to see both getting equal or near equal touches. This team needs to run it well to have any chance of winning. I would load the box and force Pickett to beat them.
  14. Stillers are the worst 6-3 team in the history of professional sports. The Packers had 5 plays of 35+ yards on Sunday - 4 of them came on 3rd and long. The 5th was in the final minute with Jordan Love throwing essentially a hail mary to avoid a sack...except for the fact that the hail mary was to go a guy who had no one within the city limits covering him. How this team keeps winning is beyond me. Well, they don't turn the ball over. That's one thing. And they can run it some now. Other than that...yeesh. This past weekend was the best weather day that we've ever had. Low 50s and full sun in November. It was a glorious fall football Sunday in Pittsburgh.
  15. Like others, I had a huge temp spike between 3am and 4am - my temp went from 29.7 up to 44.6 in less than 30 minutes.
  16. Finally! Nice to see the Steelers win in person. It's been a hot minute. Going to enjoy tonight here and head home tomorrow.
  17. Nice rain falling here at work and 48 degrees. Parking lot lights are on - very dark, chilly and damp morning.
  18. It "seems" like December will be mild - January is also trending that way, especially early. Seems reasonable to forecast an overall AN temp type of winter. If the first 2 months hold, February would have to get really cold to offset that.
  19. Pretty much right in line with the majority - increased risk of nor'easters with wintry weather more likely later on in the winter.
