  1. MU on the upcoming weekend: During the second half of the weekend, there has been more unwarranted "hype" in recent days regarding a potential winter storm. The odds of that actually happening are very low. Instead, a developing storm system over the southern Plains on Saturday will likely track due east through Sunday and exit into the Atlantic somewhere between South Carolina and northern Florida. Either way, that's too far south for any precipitation to reach northern MD or southern PA, and Sunday will likely just turn out partly-to-mostly cloudy and dry with highs in the 40s. Behind the system, early next week should turn out equally as nice with mostly sunny skies accompanying an even bigger moderating trend. Essentially, the weather is going to be a "snoozefest" for at least the next week, and our moderate-to-extreme drought conditions are only going to worsen.
  2. Isn't sleet wonderful? I know it can be demoralizing when we change over, but my goodness it can do absolute wonders for a snowpack. Outside of February 2010, all of our long-lasting packs have had a lot of sleet/freezing rain embedded in it. 10" of snow with a ton of sleet will last so much longer than 24" of cold powder. We've reaped the benefit of those hours of sleet we had back on 1/25. Even with the cold temps we've had since, the ground would look far different today without that sleet.
  3. 32.0 currently at home. Seems clouds are helping mitigate much melting so far today despite the "warmer" temp.
  4. We got snow from them but it's an incredibly tenuous situation that has low probabilities. Definitely worth watching.
  5. You care to post the 12z ICON? Or how about the 12z GFS? Yeah...I didn't think so. Troll.
  6. I was thinking about this yesterday- this has been the longest stretch of prolonged cold that I can remember in years. I feel like we've lived in the teens and 20s for weeks. And yet my lowest temp for the entire winter may end up as 5 degrees. Just the way it worked out with wind and clouds at night.
  7. Just checked the Maytown Airport station. Top gust here has been 42 mph. No gusts over 40 in hours.
  8. I don't know if it's the wind direction today or what but I am barely noticing it unless I'm near one of our west-facing windows. It seemed a good bit gustier earlier this morning.
  9. They are; however, my wife threw the red challenge flag stating that my mind is not secure...
  10. Took the trash out and got the mail. Tee shirt and shorts. #invigorating
  11. Coating achieved! Very thin but cars are covered and a few tracks on the road. :)
  12. You got wayyy more (very relative, I realize )than I did. Nothing is covered here other. Just a trace on car window trim.
  13. Seeing reports of 4"+ with heavy snow still falling in central VA. What a great surprise for them today.
  14. MU ain't playing around with the wind threat: NW winds of 20-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph will buffet the region on Sat. In addition, temps will plunge into the teens Sat morning with wind chills as low as -15°F throughout the day and -20 to -25°F at night. Exposed skin could develop frostbite in just 10-15 minutes. Roadways may be littered with debris from the high winds, as well. Uninsulated/unprotected pipes may freeze or burst, and widespread power outages are also likely. Stock up on extra water, food, blankets, coats, flashlights and other supplies late this week. Make sure you have a backup generator too. In the event of a power outage, the internal temp of your house may drop to unsafe levels in just 12-24 hours. Finally, fill your vehicle's gas tank to prevent fuel lines from freezing.
  15. Yeah my wind gusts were updated to 50 from 43mph earlier. Sigh.
  16. GFS now gives us wintry precip on Wednesday and has lost the VD weekend storm threat.
  17. @canderson - you mentioned yesterday how little CTP was talking about wind potential on Saturday. I see in my forecast this morning that they're mentioning gusts "only" to the low to mid 40s now. Did something happen that in reality will reduce the wind threat?
  18. Middle of the uprights scenario right there. Overnight Canadians were friendly to us - certainly looked like it was going to be a flush hit. Euro as depicted was very concerning to me. It drove temps into the 40s clear up to Montreal while I basked in the mid 50s during a driving rain storm. That would spell significant concerns along the Susky for ice jam issues...
  19. I met my son at the Nook this morning for some early hoop action. Driving across Prospect Road from 283 to Washington Boro my car fluctuated between 4 and 21. I was surprised to see how low I got last night.
  20. Fair enough, though my station isn't running hot. There are many wunderground stations between Elizabethtown and here at work that are between 35 and 40 right now. I'm sitting at 33.7.
  21. Respectfully, if it isn't a big deal to you, then why did you question the accuracy of my station?
  22. Absolutely correct! I'm often as much as 5 or so degrees different than MDT.
