It’s a good thing the low cloud deck marine layer in LB held off until after the 4th. It also looks like the dredging and beach extension created a very long sandbar.

Was there and can confirm that, I was wayy  out in mid calf deep water. Later in the day not as dramatic, had to head back closer to shore, didnt want to get stuck out there.  I never knew long beach for that so didnt know what to make of it.

Read that them having 5 straight days of 85+ would be like NYC having 5 straight days of 101+

They reached 90, that's incredible for them.

The record of consecutive 80+ was 4 I believe.

Breaking an all time record by 5 is very impressive. Major heat (relative to normal) has been a common theme there.

Imagine a high of 111 in the Park.

lol JFK may reach 100 before Central Park does.

No one cares about Central Park anymore anyway, it doesn't reflect NYC weather in any way.  I dont know why the media ever uses them anymore, they should just use LGA which is far more reflective of urban NYC.

I wish the NWS would send a bulletin to the media to tell them to stop using Central Park numbers.  All we get now is Lee Goldberg telling us that the wind and temp reports from Central Park are not representative of the area- but he keeps on quoting them and the highs and lows there.

Either that or move the Central Park equipment out into the Sheep Meadow (or set up duplicate equipment there and just use their numbers and only keep the original equipment for historical purposes) or some other open area lol.  No one really cares about weather continuity from the 1800s anymore anyway, we all know the climate was far different back then.

If it's any consolation most people get their weather from weather apps on their phone. Most apps just point to the closest official obs station, not holding central park in any special regard. For a large portion of NYC you'll get LGA readings and statistics.

The most impressive part of this late June heatwave was to our south. Miami tied their June highest temperature of 98 degrees.

Unprecedented. That's how I can best describe the #heatwave in #Miami. Four records in 4 days (asterisks). Ten heat records this month. And setting the new record for highest number of days of 95°+ in the first half of a calendar year (8). The old record was 6. #climate

I was reading about this. Impressive. Doesnt stray from 88-92 much down there all summer. Of course with stifling humidity.

LGA and Central Park both drop a degree to 87.

However LGA has a high of 90 already in between observations. The Park 89.

JFK got there 90 too. Wall St heliport 91. Most of NYS Mesonet sites at the CUNY schools are 90. I keep rising at 92. As of now, every corner of the city has touched 90 at some point, except that spot deep in the middle of central park.

    Excellent account.

BTW we hit 90 here, I dont know why JFK lagged behind.  There was a NW wind and temps definitely hit 90 on the south shore.

Looking at obs, JFK winds went SW around noon and S by mid afternoon.

    LGA got to 90.
