When I saw it flurrying, I had not considered lake effect snow. I now know that if covering enough surface area, man made lakes can give us a little eye candy.

There is a little bit of “frizzle’ with a few flurries and occasional flake falling in South West Lewisville.

February 19-20 Major Winter Storm Threat
gwlee7 replied to NorthHillsWx's topic in Southeastern States
If they get what we’re currently getting 8 miles NNE of DFW, all anyone is getting is a cold, windy disappointment. Hardly any fzn on the trash can lid when I rolled them to the curb I do hope someone “back home” scores a decent hit though. -
My sister lives in what was our parents house just North of Leggett, NC, a little rural town in Edgecombe county not too far from Halifax Co.

Probably gonna issue a falling iguanas warning fpr Florida as well.

Is that actual snow N and W of DFW on the radar or just “noise”?

I think all the lack of model consensus is what’s been driving the SE folks crazy. I think I will try to find a less technical textbook or web based resource to start educating myself better on all these factors. I am fascinated by all of it except for when it decides to be hot and dry for 100 days in a row.

I am trying to learn more. What should I be looking for and which short range models do you like for TX? I know that my friends on the SE forum live or die a thousand deaths watching the long range models every time it gets cold and moisture is predicted in the area.

Lol. And here I was rooting for you guys from afar.

Good morning SE Forum!! This one seems to shaping up nicely for some of you. One thing that seems to be in your favor is that the snow breaking out in TX late Monday/Tuesday morning is expected to be considerably South of DFW than the last system. And if I am reading the maps correctly (an area in need of improvement for me) you have HP in the right place this time. i grew up In and lived in the Rocky Mount NC area for most of my life and that looks like a good spot but, I am rooting for all of you. Bring it on home guys!!

I am not a great model reader for the this part of the country. The SE forum was my “home” here for years until we moved to the DFW here in 2017 and I am more familiar with what it takes to get snow there. That said, it’s gonna take a major NW move of the Tuesday system for DFW to anything other than flurries correct? A 2025 goal of mine gonna be to become a better student of TX weather.

No kidding. Watching my beta fish “Kevin” slowly freeze to death in his aquarium when I had no way to keep his water warm enough was heartbreaking enough. I can’t even begin to imagine all the real suffering that people went through. It would especially be a disaster since we have had the opportunity to address the problems that caused the widespread outages in ‘21.

So there night be a round 2?

So, things are pretty much over for DFW (near the airport) now. I ended up getting another 1/2 inch or so of snow over night and there are a very few flakes mixed with light “frizzle” falling right now. Total for my house (8.3 miles NNE of the DFW) is we’ll call it 1.75” of accumulation. This is slightly under the NWS forecast of 2 to 5 inches. It will be interesting to see if the “what happens in Dallas happens in Raleigh” hypothesis holds true. I needed to be about 30 miles north of here to have really cashed in so that part sounds familiar. There’s definitely enough to play in so your kids can still have fun though. Thanks for letting me hang back out with you for the event and I will be reading to see how it all shakes out for the SE.
