  1. This is exactly what SARS did. MERS too, I'm pretty sure. Not sure if that means it's common, but it happens. Zoonotic transmission is a real problem and there is a major link to Chinese wet markets and the consumption of exotic meat in general (see AIDS). A lot of nasty diseases have come from the practice of eating undercooked meat from exotic animals, and China has been an epicenter. But the West is too scared to confront the Chinese over it so this will definitely happen again.
  2. Have the stat heads here been looking at some of the research coming out now that says the infected count is far higher than we have estimated and therefore the infected fatality ratio (IFR) is much lower? Don't listen to the case fatality ratio numbers on TV, they are all bogus. Self-selection bias is rampant because only the sickest people go to the hospital and get tested. The hospitalization rate numbers are also bogus because of this: of the sickest patients showing up in the ER, only about ~10% are admitted. That doesn't mean 10% of everyone who gets the virus will need a hospital bed... it appears 50% or more may have no symptoms at all. In a few years when COVID-19 is a seasonal disease like the flu or cold we will wonder why we crashed the world economy over it.
  3. Coronaviruses are endemic is most mammals. No surprise it can survive in dogs and lions but not really cause a major infection, per se. Many viruses can live in other hosts and not be infectious. That's how the whole wet market virus spreading thing even happens. A bat-based coronavirus spread to another host, possibly a pangolin, and then to humans. It was seriously infectious in humans.
  4. I would love to do that but I already have several properties and a business. I need to unload some of this sh*t to be a logger. LOL Goal would be to make this my primary in a few years so I want to be set with snow.
  5. Yeah, I was already drooling over that one. I think I mentioned it to you in my PM. Bit too much for me to handle in terms of the amount of land. I am not a farmer or logger.
  6. Really nice detail. Thanks for writing this up.
  7. LOL yup this was the first place I consulted when I started looking.
  8. Jamaica VT seems like it’s a good spot. I found something nice there.
  9. Turns out BWI doesn't go to BTV. Not at the moment, at least. I swear in the past I have seen flights. BWI does go to Albany and a quick ride into VT. How would Bennington be climate-wise? BWI also goes to Portland, which opens up Maine a bit. Trying to determine the best spot to be within 45-60 mins of Portland.
  10. Yeah, I am trying to secure something there. Also looking at southern Vermont near Stratton (e.g., Jamaica, VT) if a good location in NH doesn't work out. That's an easier drive too, but worried about proximity to Albany and NY'ers... Also massholes too of course LOL
  11. Yes that’s what I meant. ORH told me the same thing. Plenty of land there though. What are your thoughts on Bethlehem? Same deal?
  12. I'd love to be there but not seeing anything like that at the moment. Bunch of large lots about 30 mins away in Whiteford. Also some in Bethlehem.
  13. Great, closing in on a nice lot there. I've never skied Jay Peak but I have heard great things. Plus access to Montreal which is nice for us.
  14. Would Montgomery be decent?
  15. I appreciate the detail. Found some good properties around Wardsboro, VT, seems close to Stratton and Mt. Snow. I've never skied at either place so I would need to check it out. Good spot for snow? Maine is great but such a huge hike. With NH I can drive it or fly into Manchester and drive a little further. VT is an easy drive for us. Maine takes forever.
  16. What about snow in NH? 80 inches a year seems kinda low. I get that in Garrett County (sometimes... this winter sucked ass). If I am making this switch I want it to be worth it.
  17. I have never had any desire to have a place in NY state. Just a personal preference.
  18. What about New Hampshire?
  19. I have found prices are already tanking. I am fortunate that my business is one of the few thriving right now, so I have some cash to spend. We have been looking at properties in Italy too. Prices are diving there, obviously. But too much risk to buy sight-unseen.
  20. Thanks man, I was hoping you'd weigh in. You always have the pulse.
  21. Thanks, a lot to digest there.
  22. Looking to buy 30+ acres in NNE. What would be a good general area to search, proximity to a ski place is a must. Otherwise, not many requirements. Big snow, too, obviously!
  23. Why are you torturing yourself following this shit? Are you the kind of guy who still watches the confetti fall and the postgame show after your sports team loses the championship game in miserable fashion?
