  1. Gonna be chilly tonight. Down to 63 already.
  2. The results of the pandemic and the general crime situation in the cities will not be fully realized for 5-10 years. It's clear there has been a big blow to the cities, but demographic shifts play out over several years or decades, not all at once. The biggest thing happening right now in places like NYC is they are getting "hollowed out" as the major taxpayers and job producers leave first, since they have the means to easily do so. I read somewhere that over 50% of the taxes in NYC are paid by a small number of wealthy residents who are actively being demonized and told to f*ck off and leave. The role of teleworking is an interesting angle to this as well. More widespread teleworking makes it much less attractive to pay huge money to live somewhere such as NYC or San Francisco. It's not like you can even argue you want to be in NYC for the entertainment and food. Most of that is shut down or severely limited and that situation isn't changing for 18-24 months, if ever.
  3. 56 degrees and showers/downpours rolling through. Low clouds hugging the mountains like a blanket. Bully day! Rain ending for now. Ended up with .67"
  4. Picked up .3 overnight and now raining hard again.
  5. Oddly enough, few of them are raising families. Birth rates are shit over there. That’s probably why the government provides such generous benefits for having kids, as an incentive to have a bunch. Has that never occurred to you?
  6. The temp here plummets after sundown but then seems to get "stuck" by around 10-12 PM and doesn't go much lower overnight. I have noticed this pattern all summer. We'll see if that changes in the winter.
  7. Yeah, you definitely radiate better than me here in Randolph. Last 3 nights for me: 53/52/55
  8. The Nordic countries are basically Vermont and parts of Massachusetts. Comparing them to the entire 325 million person US one-to-one is dumb.
  9. Things would be very different in Iceland if 2-4 million poor uneducated mothers with 5 kids each suddenly appeared. These comparisons between tiny Nordic countries and huge nations such as the US are always stupid.
  10. This reminds me of the UN “studies” that put the US behind places in Africa and the Middle East in terms of women’s rights and press freedom. These things are always politically slanted.
  11. It also has a tiny, ethnically homogeneous population with a strong work ethic and sense of civic pride that stretches back many generations. Basically the opposite of most American cities.
  12. Yeah, I assume I should root for big-time moisture since temps are more likely to work out in my backyard regardless of pattern.
  13. That’s a pretty typical mutation path for coronaviruses from what I have read. Weaker but more broadly infectious. That’s what defines the common cold, which is caused by various coronaviruses.
  14. I swooped in and stole a mountain home, so yeah it is a real thing.
  15. Some clouds have been stuck up there for a while.
  16. Now THIS is the weather I envisioned when I bought this place. Glorious!
  17. Today was really nice. I was out taking down an old ash tree and splitting it. Some really nice cool breezes when the sun went in. Definitely feels different than July.
  18. Put that link in your sig. Be good to check in during the winter. You getting a wx station? I put it my sig, or at least I think I did, I have sigs turned off. I have a weather station but need to connect it to wunderground. I haven't gotten around to that yet.
  19. Not on his plane of existence. Elevate your consciousness, bro.
  20. Cook something horrible caked with grease and smoke 'em out.
  21. I can't promise you won't see me wandering around shirtless or my kids punching each other. Viewer beware!
  22. Cam link. https://video.nest.com/live/cfvTL567uL
  23. Here is the link to the camera I set up facing the Northern Presidentials. This is right off my deck. The fish eye lens effect of the camera makes the mountains seem further away than they actually are. They are much, much closer in person. https://video.nest.com/live/cfvTL567uL
