  1. It's like the beaches. There was never any rational explanation for the concern over beaches, but, for whatever reason, people focused in on them as a major nexus of COVID spread. It never made much sense.
  2. I have never skied Black Mountain but it definitely appears to be very "rustic." I could see there being some debris just off the trails.
  3. I’m really glad I bought the house in Randolph outright. I think some tight restrictions on out-of-staters and daily pass people could be coming.
  4. 56 degrees. Been socked in with low clouds all day.
  5. Ji in the MA forum is the same way. He is more about the tracking and worrying than the actual storm. Whenever it snows in his area, he spends the whole storm here posting about how it’s sad winter is ending soon and there is nothing on the long range models. It’s a sickness they have.
  6. The Rockies aren't mountains, dude. They are hills compared to the Himalayas. Shit, a real mountain man wouldn't even start calling it a mountain unless it is higher than Olympus Mons. You gotta lot to learn.
  7. I bought a vehicle in NH and put NH plates on it in part to avoid any issues if they suddenly decide to tighten the rules with something like plate checks at the resorts. NH has been pretty level-headed with the COVID restrictions, IMO. Some of the restrictions in other states seem a bit random or reactionary. I am not sure what to expect from states such as NY and VT this fall in terms of restrictions. I feel like any hint of a rise in new cases will send them back hard towards full lockdown.
  8. God never intended for man to take vehicles up the sides of mountains.
  9. And right after feeling like I was inches from death on the road and the railroad is the safer option. LOL
  10. Pretty bold with the call outs considering he lives in Massachusetts...
  11. There are some people who loosen up and become laser-focused when they are pumped full of adrenaline and fear. And then there are others who get all shaky, dizzy, and start grabbing door handles when that happens. The two camps will never understand each other, in my experience. I am more in the second group for sure.
  12. Yes, definitely doing the cog railroad if we ever go up again. It really is a white-knuckle experience. And it doesn't help to be in a huge SUV hauling the entire family on what you thought would be a simple afternoon excursion. I have a new, immense respect for the "This Car Climbed Mt. Washington" bumper stickers I see around. LOL
  13. I drove up the Mt Washington auto road today. I'm sure it's old hat for all of you, but I will just say it was terrifying. LOL I had no idea it was like that. I had in my mind a nice two lane road with guardrails. Glad I did it, but never, ever again. I would much rather hike up.
  14. What if all of your genetic tinkering and playing botany god creates killer trees out for revenge?
  15. Haven’t noticed any blonding. Basically the crowns of all of the trees are dead. Could have been an ice storm I guess. Locals said there was a nasty one a few years back that clipped all the ash.
  16. Looks like some rime ice up on Adams today. Clouds still covering most of the summit.
  17. Seems like Randolph does best with snow when highs are in the mid to upper 20s and lows are in the upper teens. That's when it snows well. Just like down south, mega cold means dry.
  18. That station has some crazy cooling numbers on certain nights. Almost unbelievable.
  19. I have been chopping down so many trees to get firewood stashed away. Basically like a panicked squirrel that slept all fall and woke up December 1.
  20. Yeah I have been telling the wife that a decent November in Randolph would be considered a solid, above-average winter at our place in MD.
  21. She is very cold already and it's August.
  22. Tree guys, are there EABs in Coos County? The NH website says just Grafton and south. I have a bunch of sick looking ash here though.
  23. LOL ”You need to acknowledge the high humidity levels this summer or else!”
  24. Cool, dry air ushering in on a stiff breeze.
