  1. We have no idea how to measure that much snow. Anyone in MD claiming they do is full of shit. Even on Parr's ridge.
  2. What is Epstein growing in his garden? I hope he has enough food or flowers to last through this incredibly dry time.
  3. Yeah, you are right. I do remember the blizzard-like conditions in the second storm and more drifting.
  4. And @Ji still bitched and whined that winter ended in the middle of February after receiving 80 inches of snow.
  5. I am terrible with records, but in 2009-2010, I believe my max depth in Kingsville after the 2 February storms was about 40 inches, IIRC. It shrunk fairly quickly after that. I received 19" in the December HECS, about 30" in the first Feb HECS, and about 25" or so in the 2nd Feb HECS (again, I am terrible with these records so anyone can correct me if I am wrong). It was all heavy wet snow and we get warm after storms most of the time so the depth numbers probably seem off to you. LOL We don't go to negative digits and days of upslope after a major coastal storm! It was apocalyptic down here for sure, but not near 100". This winter in Randolph really will be beyond anything I have experienced over a long period of time (I have been at ski places in the NE and out west for huge storms before, but in a condo and never for a lengthy period). There was one storm prior to the Feb HECS in late January. It snowed with temps in the lower 20s. It is often forgotten (for good reason), but it was an amazing teaser. We call it the "cold snow" storm. It was supposed to stay suppressed into NC and VA, but it drifted north. I think @ORH_wxman was one of the few mets banging the drum of the north trend. But, yeah, basically this all can be summed up by average November through December in Randolph. haha
  6. The guy that built this house made some weird choices, and he was a bit of a local muckety-muck so he hired some of his buddies to handle certain things. The septic was never done correctly, for example. It was all done under the table and palms were greased for permits. But the dug well lasted this long so I guess it works OK. I was told there was a huge drought a few years back that wiped out most of the dug wells in NH, but ours survived.
  7. Yeah, it's concerning. We talked to a well guy and he said most of the dug wells in NH have been replaced at this point after serious droughts over the years. He said if our dug well is still going at this point it must be pretty strong. But we are prepared to have a drilled well put in if needed. There are areas on my property that are still mushy even in this drought so there must be springs nearby.
  8. Yeah, seems like there is a bit of a dead-zone in that part of Maine in terms of posters here. Glad I could fill in the link of posters heading NE. You guys have me absolutely stoked for winter. The months are passing too slowly right now.
  9. I have a meteorologist who works for me actually, and I have had him doing some data dumps from the CoCoRaHS site for me lately. LOL
  10. Oh, trust me, those of us from the MA know this! He and @CoastalWx were legendary in the MA forum. When those guys appeared and started talking about thundersnow and the comma head, you knew you were in for a good storm.
  11. I have a shallow dug well and it is holding up, but I worry about it. We have a lot of ground water here.
  12. LOL that's a very generous offer, but I think CT would be better off if I shipped them some muddy ground and snowmelt runoff to ease the drought at this point!
  13. I believe someone here said the Pinkham Notch numbers are a little unreliable because there are a lot of missing reports, especially during the shoulder seasons. You can read the detailed comments from the Randolph observer each day. There are very, very few missing days and he/she seems really into taking obs.
  14. I will look into that for sure. I figured I am getting fleeced. I’m the “rich” out of towner guy new to the area... easy mark.
  15. Don’t worry, I am totally unprepared. I don’t even have a snow shovel yet.
  16. I’m gonna need a shovel for that for sure.
  17. At the end of winter 09/10 in MD I cried for momma. I had water running down my walls from the ice damming.
  18. Yeah, I figured I will get a winter under my belt and then see if I can tackle it myself. I just have no basis for what to expect this winter.
  19. They said they are there every day in some patterns. I guess if I leave to much snow the lower layer freezes solid and slick and becomes really hard to remove.
  20. We have a hot water fuel oil boiler system. Hopefully it will be decently efficient, but yeah we are expecting a big bill.
  21. Yeah, he said that he tries to maneuver the snow and stay on top of it so that doesn't happen. Apparently they did need to bring in front loaders a few times in the past when they had nowhere else to put the snow. We will see how it goes this winter, obviously I have never dealt with anything remotely like this.
  22. About $80 a plow is what the guy says he charges. I have no way to know if that is a good price or not... It's a solid quarter mile of driveway with a loop and a big open area that needs to be cleared. Seemed reasonable.
