  1. Over 90% of those 200k deaths had other major underlying conditions that are also leading causes of death, such as serious diabetes (85k deaths per year), chronic lower respiratory disease (150k deaths per year), and heart disease (655k deaths per year). Just throwing out that 200k number with zero context is super misleading. A sizable percent of that 200k were already deathly ill and were destined to die this year no matter what. COVID helped that along just like a cold or pneumonia could.
  2. Looks like a little rain shower up on Adams/Madison right now. Nothing here.
  3. Things are much more upbeat here. The MA forum has been like a funeral procession for many months now. Several reasons for that both on and off the boards. No need to rehash it here.
  4. Water usage at the aquifer level affects entire neighborhoods. So even if you aren’t watering, others are tapping into that precious resource all the same and it could eventually affect your well.
  5. I am strictly referring to people who burn their lawns because they inexplicably keep cutting the grass short three times a week in a drought. Then they have to extensively water to save the lawn. Being proud of your lawn and it’s appearance Is perfectly fine. I was just making some commentary on the silliness and pointlessness of the cut/water/cut/water cycle some of the lawn fans seem unable to break out of in a drought situation. Just stop mowing!
  6. And wells are drying up because those same people who can't help but cut their lawn 3 times a week in a major drought are now dumping hundreds of gallons a day on their lawns in an attempt to save them. It really is a massively wasteful endeavor.
  7. I'll be honest, I don't get it either. I just know the guy who manages my property when I am not there and lives a little north of Berlin said the plows get stuck on my driveway every year and he has to come pull them out with an even bigger machine. LOL He called me tonight and told me I needed to have my property graded in several spots because the plows slip into the lower spots off the driveway and get stuck. Silly plow guy, I said.
  8. That's what they call a "winner's problem." Randolph had 207" last winter. It's a microclimate considering we average 185" and nearby Gorham/Berlin average 85-90".
  9. Seems like when these stories come up it later turns out they either had a false positive with the first test, or the second test is detecting old leftover bits of the virus instead of an active infection. But having only 5-6 months of somewhat weak immunity (especially in the older, vulnerable crowd) lines up with some of the more pessimistic views of the effectiveness of the vaccines. The jury is still out on this since we lack long-term data, obviously.
  10. An inch and a half of rain here early next week would be great.
  11. Yes, I rocked a pair of dinged-up white skinny skis back then. And crappy used mismatched boots. I definitely grew up hobo skiing.
  12. Those babies look perfect to pair with this look:
  13. It was even worse than that map indicates. Winter basically never started. Days and days of soggy 50s.
  14. Zero redeeming qualities that I can think of at this point.
  15. I had to update my mountain cam wifi, here is the new link. https://video.nest.com/live/URwoSmP3dg
  16. Eh, gotta keep the trolling privileges active. If there is a HECS lined up for Kingsville I will probably head home for it. Nothing quite like 3 feet of Baltimore cement. Has a certain charm.
  17. 27 for the low again. Nippy out there this morning. Have had the fireplace and pellet stove going. Hot water boiler is broken so can't turn that on anyway. Ugh...
  18. Stuck at 35 (as has been the case for the past few nights at this time), should start dropping again on the way to 30-32 by midnight or so.
