Definitely a difference-maker usually. This storm there are places that are definitely lower in elevation that got smoked, however. Such as Whitefield, Lancaster, Littleton, and Jefferson.
Yeah, it was probably someone in the actual little village of Randolph which is down the road several miles next to Jefferson. Much lower in elevation but that didn't seem to matter as much in this one compared to being further west.
The spotter at 1750' only had 0.5" at 0700, seemingly about the same as me. I don't see how anyone around here added 4.5" since then. I have been watching it on the cam. Maybe 2-3 inches total at most. There is no one living in Randolph higher than about 1750', as far as I know.
Definitely ended up getting downsloped or something here. I talked to the local guy and he said it never got going once the snow mixed in. Classic rate-driven screw job I guess. I don't think it's going to be very common to be beaten by Littleton and Lancaster. Really glad it snowed all the same. Always good to get the first one. In MD we would call this a "good winter event" after tracking it for 2 weeks. LOL
I figured the local ski places might be more jammed than usual because people aren't flying anywhere and will choose to spend their vacation days close to home, within the range of a day trip.
Very true. Our season passes only allow us to ski on weekdays, and we are fine with that.
I don't mind skiing on very cold days. I have skied in -teens a few times. I am always hot when skiing. But the kids will likely complain.
