  1. Yup, I have plenty of protected woods where I expect deep snow to build up. There is a deep gulley by the barn that should fill with several feet of snow.
  2. It's worth it for the view. Most of the houses around here just look at a bunch of trees. You wouldn't even know the Northern Presidentials are right there.
  3. It’s very wooded and protected. I know where he lives... LOL My lot is probably the most cleared on Randolph Hill. Most others are heavily wooded. The CoCoRaHS guy’s spot is epic for retention. Shaded and protected all the time.
  4. ... in a winter that happens every 500 years or so. LOL
  5. That winter won't be repeated again in any of our lifetimes, so need to worry. But I can imagine it was traumatizing to watch. If I was still in MD and had to watch VA Beach get three HECS while I got high cirrus it would be hard to take.
  6. As someone from the Mid-Atlantic, I do find it a little surprising and somewhat pathetic how quickly some of you guys have thrown in the towel and fallen into misery over the winter. We have spent many years watching you guys steal victory from the jaws of defeat with late-blooming storms that totally screw us. It seems way too early to throw in the towel in SNE if weenies in MD, VA, and even damn NC of all places are still holding out hope.
  7. Just 24 here. Expected more of a temp rise by now.
  8. GFS has had something at that timeframe for a few runs now.
  9. Yep, that 5 inches he measured in mid-October really put him over the top on this analysis. I have noticed that his measurements are super-accurate to the point that it doesn't always reflect the sensible weather on the ground, if that makes sense. In both of the 5 inch storms for Randolph so far things were so stretched out and marginal there was never more than 3 or so inches OTG at any given time.
  10. Same exact thing here in Berlin/Gorham/Shelburne zone.
  11. On the very short Randolph data set, it's about 70% I believe last time I checked. Only 11 years however so not really definite. Certainly well-within normal to be bare on Thanksgiving. Looks like there might still be a chance for NNE this year. The forecast around Turkey Day looks like a mixed bag mess setup. Will need to see which way it breaks. There are several little events on the horizon that all have marginal temps. We could exit the next week+ period with a few inches of snow in the books or nothing but chilly rain.
  12. Hopefully another surprise 5-10 of upslope suddenly appears out of nowhere. I'm coming to realize that happens in certain spots up here.
  13. 18z GFS is a series of horrendous driving rainstorms even up here. Ugly run.
  14. I am legit worried about being the curse.
  15. It's because it's close to space, bro. duh
  16. 18 degrees at 1:15 PM. Impressive for sure.
  17. Yes, but from a strictly economic standpoint, the workers in the minority communities who make the money are not dying from COVID in serious numbers. I suspect most of them really want to keep working, because if they lose their jobs, they are finished AND grandma still might die. The call for lockdowns screws them twice...
  18. From what I have been told, those big gatherings will lead to more community spread which means you will be infected next time the DoorDash guy shows up at your apartment with Thai food. Sorry, buddy.
  19. In my large house with a lot of property without having to really go anywhere unless I want to. Nothing worse than people like me telling working stiffs they need to give up their jobs and stay home, or else they kill grandma.
  20. Those of you assuming restrictions are being lifted fairly early in 2021 (spring/summer) are basing that assumption on (1) the majority of people choosing to receive the vaccine and (2) the government deciding they don't care if a bunch of people skip the vaccine and drop dead of COVID. I think those are very flawed assumptions based on what we have seen the governors do over the last six months.
  21. With a virus with a survival rate at 99.7% (and even higher for those under age 50), is that all that surprising?
  22. We don't need to debate it here. I am a cynic and a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to govt power. We will see what happens. Fingers crossed I am wrong for everyone's sake.
  23. I had a few small chairs from an outdoor dining table blow way into the woods too, I just noticed. Crazy how they managed to get through all the columns and obstructions to find their way into the field. The wind is relentless here when it gets going. It swirls too which is part of how this furniture managed to escape I think. Time to clear the decks. Lesson learned.
