  1. Oh yeah, that's part of the BW difference. Cannon would have groomed at 6 PM yesterday and just let it rip this morning. Seen that pattern many times there. Always obvious which mountains groom in the AM and which mostly groom right after closing the day before. I figured the closings were more about grooming versus lack of snow. The manmade trails all have a thick base that could have stood up to this event.
  2. Yep, easy to get in to trouble there. We prefer Wildcat to Cannon, but both mountains have some really intimidating terrain literally right off the main path and not the best signage system sometimes. I frequently see beginner skiers stuck on the runs under the lifts at wildcat, which are all pretty rough. It's easy to make a wrong turn off a blue or even a green and end up on icy steep bumps with boulders sticking out.
  3. A little grooming will fix that right up. At Cannon, they'd call that "exciting natural conditions" and let 'er rip.
  4. Euro looks pretty gross for next week as well. If that verifies as shown, I won't have much snow left at all. These next couple powderpuff events this weekend are not going to build a real sustained pack before the next deluge. I see that BW only has a handful of trails open. That sucks for a busy holiday weekend.
  5. Always nice to set records. LOL I figure I am seeing the bottom tier of winters here the last two seasons, and per the record it can only go up from here.
  6. Definitely. SSW winds are rough here. These "cutters" hit hard in Randolph under the right conditions. My temp was 51 for hours and hours and then spiked to 60 for a few hours when the rain hit. It's kinda amazing I still have almost full coverage, actually. If it gets warm again for a few days next week this pack is probably toast outside some plow piles.
  7. Almost as bad as grinch here. Temps were at 60/50 for a while last night during the rain. That’s a pack killer. 6-8” left with some bare spots on the southern side.
  8. Storm was really nasty here. Lost a ton of depth and have bare spots on south facing aspects that had been previously wind-scoured. I estimate 6-8” average pack remaining. This was almost as bad as the grinch here. I was 60/50 for temps during the rain on big SW winds. Just brutal.
  9. Pack is about 11" now. Just getting destroyed and still a ways to go.
  10. That's my definition. It cuts to my west and rains on me. I call that a cutter. Regardless of the definition, it sucks. 50/44 Very little rain so far.
  11. This is when BW can really shine. They will get the groomed trails into decent shape.
  12. It's a running joke here about "fake" snow versus "real" snow. Basically just an upslope versus synoptic debate.
  13. Upslope has been noticeably missing this season. J. Spin still seems to get his tenths every couple days, but where are the 3-5 jobs?
  14. 51/41 No rain yet but it's coming.
  15. Big SNE boys talking heavy snow for my backyard. Let's see what happens. LOL Hope you guys are right.
  16. More is real here than in the Northern Greens, for sure.
  17. I assume an epic snow pattern here looks like mid-Jan to early Feb this year (44"), just non-stop from November to April. Another 45-50" in March would be great, but in both of the past two subpar winters it seems like just when things seem to be turning around the pattern goes bone dry.
  18. I am praying for a cool-ish firehose in March. Hope that happens. Models are hinting.
  19. We'll see. Dry/quiet patterns seem much more common here than epic snow patterns.
  20. I'm down to 15" off of 22" before the rain even really starts. Will probably have less than a foot after the rain, at best. We will see if any backside snows materialize.
  21. NNE is always good at getting a couple inches of fluff to cover up the frozen mud holes.
  22. 53/40 Sun shining. Feels like MD Feb.
  23. I hope all of March is a 30 degree firehose here. Praying it doesn't get cold for a spell and then go bone dry like last March here.
  24. Rain is staying just north of me for now, which is nice.
