  1. I would hate to forecast for this location. The models are basically useless on this stuff. They provide a vague signal, but that could mean 10 inches over J. Spin's house or cloudy with flurries. Seems really hard to predict.
  2. Been snowing hard here all evening. I am impressed. GYX called for "scattered snow showers" which I have come to learn can mean big snows here. Like when LWX in MD issues a WWA and then has to play catch-up all day with warnings. Those are the best storms.
  3. Sunday River and Wildcat are both on the agenda. Still getting our bearings here. My wife and I had skied Bretton Woods in the past, and adding Cannon to the season pass was basically a freebie. We went over to Sunday River a few times in the summer to check it out. It is definitely on the list for season passes next fall.
  4. Nice, appreciate the heads up. If @J.Spin said it, it is probably legit for NNE life.
  5. It's like when they go through a vegetarian phase?
  6. I figured, hey, I've gotten a Buick LeSabre out of 3 feet of downtown Baltimore cement by rocking and pushing. I can handle this. LOL
  7. Yeah, seems like when there is a defined low nearby pumping on NE or E winds Randolph can destroy the competition. I even compete with the ski hills in that setup. Pretty sure I get more snow than Cannon, to be honest. I have been impressed with the upslope here this week. It's has been relentless. Snowing hard as hell right now. The locals from Gorham here tried to tell me. LOL They spoke of this house as some kind magical snow kingdom with plow piles higher than houses. I can only imagine what a 250" winter would look like.
  8. My oldest daughter is begging to switch to a snowboard but I have blocked that so far. We are a skiing family.
  9. Yeah, I need to get snow tires on this thing.
  10. I'm usually the guy strolling all confident across the parking lots in MD laughing at grandma penguin-walking when it's 33 degrees and raining. In Randolph, I fall down a lot.
  11. I cut too little when backing towards my garage and ended up in a plow drift. I have a Ram 1500 4x4 here so not a Honda Civic. There is some crazy kind of NASA super ice that forms here when snow is compacted down and frozen. It's pure white and slick as hell. Most slippery substance I have ever seen. I fall down on my quarter mile of driveway once a week. I am still learning the climate here.
  12. Tonight is why I bought a house up here. Skiing all afternoon at Cannon, evening beers with friends in Gorham, sliding around in my driveway, heavy snow at 13 degrees... This is truly a unique experience for a born and bred MD person. Bread and butter!!
  13. It’s absolutely dumping here. This is absurd.
  14. Well, I got stuck in my own driveway. NNE mountain rite of passage?
  15. Trails at the top. Like Ravine was just awful today.
  16. Yep, that about sums it up. I am pretty sure they got screwed a bit in this last storm too with rain and then a freeze. I will ski most any conditions or terrain except the sheet ice. Hate that stuff. The wind had scoured out the entire front face of Cannon.
  17. Not too impressed with the conditions at Cannon today. Basically a sheet of ice with some ungroomed loose fluff on top. Not sure if it’s a grooming issue or a snowfall issue, or likely a combination. I haven’t skied this mountain much in the past, and I have heard that the “challenging conditions” are part of the deal here. It was pretty crappy up top, to be honest. I feel like they kinda missed on this last storm. Maybe even had some rain.
  18. Bottomed-out at 1.6 degrees here overnight. I have not yet been below zero since buying this place, as far as I know. Edit: scratch that, just checked my PWS history and apparently I hit -2.2 the morning of 12/16. I was in MD for that so I missed it.
  19. My faith was really shaken by Grinch and then the lengthy dry and warm period afterwards, but this last several days has been epic. It looks to at least stay fairly cold too, so we can keep what we have on the ground.
  20. Yep, some fine flakes swirling around out there.
  21. I envision a James Bond-style high speed chase through some glades at Stowe and Bolton Valley with the snowmobile crew from Maine trying to run down these VT weenies who keep telling them to chill out.
  22. As of this morning, Randolph had recorded 8.1" of snow since the synoptic storm passed. I think that's really healthy for here over 3 days with basically nothing of note on radar at any point. Probably another 1-2" today as well. Just need this kind of daily snowfall and cold temps and deep winter takes care of itself here. About 75" for the cold season so far here.
