  1. OK, I see that now, he was reported missing Tuesday night after skiing Monday. That delay didn't help him obviously. Sounds like he was skiing solo and no one knew exactly where he was or when he was due back, hence the delays checking parking lots. Definitely need to respect these mountains around here, especially in winter. Many folks I talk to down south have no idea multiple people die up here skiing or hiking. They are picturing the rolling hills more typical down there.
  2. My guess is this was just the NAM being itself. The GFS will be something far less drastic, IMO.
  3. Very sad, but pretty sure the avalanche warning was active on Tuesday evening. Not really very smart to ski during an active avalanche warning. Hopefully his buddies take the wake up call. Tragic situation.
  4. Another big move like the NAM just made and it'll be a PF to Phin track.
  5. Yeah, not fair to say anyone had a bad call on this. The storm didn't just trend east, it basically fell off the plots altogether it was so suppressed.
  6. Yep, the pile is even bigger now (that pic was from before they plowed the second time after this storm). The pile by the barn is probably 5-7 feet higher than that already. They are coming up next week with the heavy equipment to several of the houses up here that they plow.
  7. The 18z GFS is a NNE mountains weenie run. More bread and butter being served than at the Thanksgiving buffet at Disney World.
  8. The piles make a great slide, however.
  9. I need to choose between lifting at the gym or shoveling snow. Can't easily do both here. LOL
  10. Learning many lessons this winter. Also learning you need to be strategic about where you throw snow. I have a few spots where I am backed into a corner with huge piles all around, like when you paint yourself into the far end of the room. I will need to break those piles down and move them to proceed. LOL All these multi-level decks makes it sort of a nightmare. But I still want more snow!
  11. I have to put the truck in the barn before the storms because otherwise I then also have to shovel the damn truck bed. It never melts. That’s not the kind of issue you ever encounter in MD.
  12. A Tuesday overrunning event would be great. Less complicated than another coastal. Just point a slug of moisture our way and let it rip.
  13. I way underestimated the snow removal situation here. I left too much snow all the way from the post-Grinch period laying around and it turned into cement. My brand new snowblower is like a child's toy with this stuff. I need the one with tank treads that throws snow 100 feet away. I also need a tractor front-loader or something. Definitely way more snow than I have ever dealt with by far and it's been a crappy winter for retention...
  14. Looks like the Hermit Lake Snowplot at 3500' or so... uh, I mean "Gorham"... pulled in 14.6" for top honors in Coos. There is a report from downtown Lancaster with 13.0." That's gotta be a mistake. The other observers nearby had 6.0 and 3.4 which better aligns with what I saw there yesterday. I assume Mt. Washington and Pinkham Notch had more than 5.2 and 6.6 inches. I'm sure measuring there is challenging in any case.
  15. I have been enraged that the PNS for recent storms labels the Hermit Lake Snowplot at like 3500' feet as "Gorham." I may break things over it.
  16. My dad used to wax our skis at the end of each season back in the day. I do remember that wax smell. Good memories. I am thinking about getting the whole setup here. Just trying to figure out if this is done every 'x' outings or just when you think it's time based on how things are going out on the slopes.
  17. Back to back storms usually fail. Need some space. Tuesday instead of Sunday. No biggie.
  18. UKMET seems to have the follow on storm Tuesday. Maybe we just punt a couple days.
