  1. I think they all have their charms. And it depends on where you stand and look. The broad swath of brilliant white against a deep blue sky with Mt. Washington on a clear day is hard to beat. There are numerous amazing views throughout the Whites. One is right off my deck. LOL
  2. We ski five days a week most weeks, sometimes four. LOL
  3. I nearly had a breakdown driving up the auto road so they can keep the helicopters, thank you very much. Not for me.
  4. It cracked my wife and I up when we came up here in May and the area outside BW looked basically exactly the same as it did when I first started skiing there 25-30 years ago. LOL
  5. That sounds like a good assessment. I often wondered how Cannon even keeps any snow on the mountain. The topography of that place doesn’t seem conducive to holding snow in any kind of winds.
  6. There hasn’t been anything interesting to track since we were rooting for the RGEM in the lead up to the early Feb storm.
  7. States that locked down have better metric than states that did. Saying Texas needs to "do more" and be like CA and NY is just silly in light of the real metrics on the ground.
  8. Wow, awesome. Hope to be as spry as your old man when I am that age.
  9. I'm not a super big bump run guy so that might be part of it. I'm sure many people went to Wildcat this year and thought it was epic and legendary or whatever. It just seemed super sloppy to me to leave the trails you say are groomed totally untouched and bumped-up. Just be honest on your website, guys.
  10. Cannon has some absolutely epic terrain and they definitely don't apologize for it or pretend to be something they are not, which I appreciate about them. We had some great days there this season, but as conditions get dicier with a lack of snow they just can't provide the terrain we are looking for right now. So icy. Just not that fun. If we could get another damned synoptic storm it would be much better. Wildcat was a mess when I went there last time. I will probably just wait until next year to see what changes Vail makes. They don't have the grooming infrastructure to take the lack of snow and back-and-forth temps and somehow turn it into a respectable showing. Neat mountain and very close to us so we will make it work eventually. The kids came a long way this season and next season will be better positioned to tackle Wildcat. We are locked-in on BW right now and skiing the entire mountain. We planned to make it over to Sunday River, but it hasn't happened yet. Always a tough choice to leave great skiing to look for something else.
  11. I haven't been to Stowe since I was a little kid and barely remember it, so I can't make that comparison. But BW is certainly better than Cannon, and don't even get me started on Wildcat grooming. Cannon was probably a horror show today.
  12. And that’s not something that we should have implemented lightly... pretty major red line to cross in a democracy.
  13. I think different variants are causing some of these anomalies. As long as hospitalizations and deaths keep declining cases hardly matter.
  14. A lot of folks point to Australia, but those comparisons are kinda silly. It’s the most remote western nation on the planet, an island, and has one of the lowest population densities of any nation on earth (it may be the lowest, definitely lowest of any industrialized nation). Totally different scenario than NYC, LA, Dallas, Houston, Miami, etc.
  15. It’s interesting to see the FL and CA data since FL is the second oldest state and CA is the fifth youngest. You would have expected very bad numbers in FL.
  16. It’s almost like the virus spread through different areas at different times irrespective of rules around when to wear a mask and how to eat at a restaurant.
  17. How is Texas compared to other huge states such as NY, CA, and FL? I know CA isn’t doing any better than FL, for example. So not sure what it means to say “how things can be handled.”
  18. What are you going to say when TX and MS still don’t have the spike in deaths that folks such as yourself have long been predicting? It isn’t like we don’t have facts on the ground we can look at to see the reality with COVID. It’s been over a year now. You can take off the fear goggles and accept the fact that the massive death spike in states that didn’t lock down never came.
  19. Africa didn’t lock down and they have not had these wild exponential explosions in deaths. Can’t believe you are still spreading this fear-mongering crap.
  20. 4 trillion dollars made by a small number of billionaires in 2020. 3.9 trillion dollars in losses for Americans and small businesses. Just a coincidence, I’m sure.
  21. Plenty of countries with science-based and liberal governments in Europe with per capita death rates around the same as our own. Can you explain that one?
  22. Just an incredibly boring look on the models for weeks now and continuing into mid-March.
  23. Since Feb 2, just a crazy dull stretch for synoptic storms. Nothing on the horizon in that regard over the next 240 hours either. It can't be very typical in my location to go 45 days in Feb/Mar without a synoptic storm over 2 inches. The local ski places have been subsisting on 1-3" refreshers, but without a meat and potatoes storm in the next week or so I predict a really short spring season. It's painfully obvious places like Cannon and Bretton Woods need fresh snow. They don't really get random 7-10 inch moose fart dumps like the Northern Greens, especially Cannon. They need some synoptic help, clearly.
  24. Conditions are not bad today at BW. Far better than expected. Feels cold as balls for some reason though. I can’t seem to warm up.
  25. Power has never even flickered once since we moved up here in May. The standby generator log says it has not been run (other than normal service cycles) since 2017 when it was installed. I figured our power would be going out all the time here, but so far that hasn't been the case. We lose power at our place in MD every other week for a few hours.
