I wouldn’t buy in Jackson unless at elevation like jculligan. They get hosed a lot. Saw it all winter. I was heavy snow and they were straight rain. Plus, it is super commercial/touristy there. Basically like a CT/MA suburb transplanted into the mountains. Fake feeling. I bought up here to get away from that crap since I had plenty of it in MD, that’s just me.

Half of what you just described is probably illegal now. A bunch of stuff I did as a kid would get a kid’s parents arrested now if some Karen tattled on them.

It’s still also really hard to get home gym equipment, such as weight plates.

Just buy the house in Jackson and tell your wife the dates to expect to be there.

You could always just move now and have the same effect.

Also a lot of Karens and Kens (male Karens). Many of the Kens are "runners" too, I bet. I've noticed a correlation!

BW has been very lax about COVID, IMO. So that somewhat busts the theory a bit. Sunday River was the only place we had an issue. My wife was actually busted for a "non-compliant mask" because it was too loose apparently. So they made her wear one of those throwaway ones that is basically a paper towel with strings on the ends... very effective I'm sure. Especially when they then jam everyone into a small space to wait for that silly "chondola" mess. You also couldn't order food at Sunday River inside. Had to stand outside and then take it in. Most of this stuff is clearly just about liability for the resort and not based on any sort of "science" to keep people safe. I noticed Maine is really into the hygiene theater stuff everywhere we went. I still saw them scurrying around spraying bleach on things and setting onerously short time limits for everything. Seems kinda silly at this point, but if that's what the gubmint says they have to do they have no choice. This may not matter to a swinging bachelor skiing alone. The couple days I skied alone this season I didn't even notice the restrictions at all. It gets a lot harder with 4 young kids, however. BW was much more relaxed about it. Sometimes my 4 year old forgot to have her mask up all the way getting on the lift and they didn't say a word. You could also sit in the lodge and get snacks/drinks as normal. Perhaps they are being "reckless," I dunno. I am glad I am in NH.

There are hard times coming over the next several years. Hope folks didn't actually think a political finger snap or magical shot in the arm was going to return us to pre-2020. Doesn't work that way. Many of the worst effects from 2020 are lagging indicators: suicides, alcoholism, drug use, crime, economic inflation, long term job losses, educational system collapse, hunger, housing crises, global geopolitical tensions... These indicators are all headed in the wrong long term direction now.

This is why as a business owner I say COVID prevention is a no-win situation. No matter what I do 50% of my employees will be pissed. I can’t imagine how maddening it is for customer facing businesses such as ski resorts.

High dews and rain will accelerate melting and shorten the season, right? The grinch storm melted like 15” in one day here and could have kept going if I had more snow. I don’t think a lot of these ski places could really take something like that.

Get your skiing in next week. We plan to go out every day all day as a grand finale sort of thing. I suspect the cutter will verify. We are “due” for a high QPF event...

And 99% of the people you meet just want to live their lives and be left alone in peace. It's a very small fraction of people who are very loud and want everyone to hate each other.

Anyone who has flown recently knows the various hygiene theater "mandates" still out there are a joke. They pack you in like sardines in the airport and on the planes. I guess some people haven't left their homes much still and don't realize this is going on.

The mid December storm was mostly wiped out by the Grinch debacle on Christmas.

Definitely a good chance the NNE shredder pattern finally relents in April and then the rains start. Followed by drought JAS.

The end result is that the parents that can will pull their kids out of public school. That will usually be the higher-performing students. This will in turn hurt test results and funding at these schools, further sinking them into a morass of poor performance.

Do you know if some kids will still be remote when that happens and if the kids "in person" will still just be on the laptops?

LOL yeah I didn't realize how much snow would blow in there. Next winter I will keep it clear from the start.

Hopefully when they come back they will be able to have real in person school where a teacher is up front and the kids are not on laptops watching videos.

Are they still just sitting on zoom at a desk in the building, though?

My grill is buried under an 8’ glacier at the moment.

That’s good they have a real hybrid approach. Some schools are making that work.

I am thinking it will be hard to ever tell people they can't be remote if they choose now that the "safety" genie is out of the bottle. As long as that remote option exists, it seems most public schools will need to keep doing this "remote in-person" bit where the kids are sitting at school but still on the Zoom with the remote kids. Maybe I am overstating this, but it's a concern my wife and I have had.

Was he obese? That seems to be the number one complicating disease He should try not to feel responsible. Easier said than done, of course. It probably won’t make him feel better to know that at some point in his life, there is a good chance he spread the flu, strep, or something like the norovirus to a vulnerable person and didn’t even realize. That’s just how life works sometimes.
