  1. Shit was that you? I saw a dude around 2:30 or so coming down off the summit with the lifts closed and was wondering how the hell he got up there. LOL
  2. The 2" of chalky snow that BW received helped make the conditions passable today. Was extremely icy, but areas that had some fresh snow were decent. Only one lift was running due to wind holds, however, which meant that there were only like three trails available. We had the mountain to ourselves, basically.
  3. There was definitely a difference between VT and parts of NH and ME this year in terms of sensible winter weather. PF was shocked to learn that Wildcat only recorded 96" of snow this season, a rather pathetic total. Large swaths of western and central ME had an historically bad year. Agreed that we all come at this from different angles. My personal grade is an A just given how this winter was compared to MD. I have heard a bunch of folks in Gorham rating this winter an A+ precisely because it didn't snow that much and wasn't that cold. LOL The mid Jan to early March period was definitely amazing for retention here, and elsewhere it seems. Skiing and snowmobiling were very good.
  4. Oh dear, a tree fell down in CT? I need to tweet this right away!
  5. 12z NAM pops a second low late week after some rain and delivers a decent little snowstorm to NH.
  6. Yeah, no way to sugarcoat it. Most places that don't get upslope really had a tough go of it this season.
  7. Was gusting to the 40s yesterday. Nothing like that here now.
  8. Nice windy upslope morning. 28 degrees.
  9. Jackson and the surrounding area are much more of a "ski village" deal than up in my area. The little places down there all have tons of memorabilia and history with Wildcat, Black Mountain, and Cranmore. I guess that's where people go to gather after a day at those hills. There is almost none of that in Gorham/Berlin. The vibe in bars over there is more industrial and blue collar. Trucks, guns, snowmobiles, ATVs, etc. Totally different feel. Very few of the locals in Gorham and Berlin I have met ski with any regularity. But they all seem to be into snowmobiles and ATVs. If some fancy ski guy from Mass strolled in there in his $500 jacket after stepping out of his x-drive BMW it would be like those old west movies where the guy walks into the bar and music stops and everyone turns to stare at him...
  10. Yikes. Hope you have multiple pumps and battery backup.
  11. I like places like that. Nice change of pace from Gorham and Berlin. They don't care about skiing at all up there. If it doesn't have a motor they pretend it doesn't exist.
  12. He might by tomorrow morning but it’ll all be gone by the time I wake up. Fake snow.
  13. Ate at a really neat ski bum place in Jackson today. Red Parka Pub. Tons of old ski stuff on the walls. Cool place.
  14. If it’s not going to snow, it’s a waste and a kick in the nuts.
  15. Pretty annoying to go almost all of Feb and March without a notable synoptic storm and then we get three rainers in a row followed by dry again... nuts.
  16. Getting some thicker rain, it appears. I wouldn't call it snow yet. Just some globs mixed in here and there.
  17. We have a room that is almost totally underground, like a root cellar almost. It is accessed from a spiraling set of stairs from the mud room. I guess the prior owner just stored junk down there, but we had it finished as a bedroom/rumpus room deal and it's awesome in the summer. Never goes above 68 degrees no matter what is happening outside. Definitely somewhere to escape when it gets overly hot.
  18. I never seem to get downsloped on south winds when the p-type is rain...
  19. It's not too bad when the temps top out in the low 80s and dip into the upper 50s once the sun goes down. I can keep the cool air from overnight in the house all day and the temps don't go above the mid-70s inside -- bearable if the air is dry. It's the humidity that is a killer. No way to clear that from the house without AC. Also, the nights when it stayed in the upper 60s to 70s were terrible last summer. Today is giving me Grinch flashbacks.
  20. Feels like Christmas in New England out there!
