That doesn't even make sense. Hospitalization is a personal choice, that metric is heavily driven by selection bias. That's like saying the COVID vaccine is 100% effective at preventing people from getting on airplanes and flying around during a pandemic because none of the study participants did so. I also still question these vaccine trials because they are affected by selection bias (generally people who fear the virus and take great care to avoid it sign up for the trials) and everyone in the trial is probably well-masked up and socially distanced. How will that scale when we go back to no masks and no distancing? Haven't seen that studied yet.

The 12z Euro was not exactly inspiring for this event. Clown maps give me the same amount of snow as the Northern Greens (not much). On the other hand, the latest HerpDerps is a shellacking, rain flips to heavy snow. Can it score the coup?

We are at very low risk right now, and science will learn more about how the vaccine actually performs over the next year, leading to a better set of vaccines and more information about boosters, variants, etc. That's when we will jump in.

I haven't read any of the press releases, but I doubt Pfizer is saying "100%" anywhere definitively in the actual results. They know better than that. There is no chance this vaccine is 100% effective at anything when scaled to the worldwide population. The 95% figures being tossed around are also probably not realistic across 7 billion people. The scientists are not being shady, not saying that at all. It's the damned media. This kind of reporting ends up hurting the vaccine initiatives because when someone inevitably dies despite supposed 100% effectiveness, it feeds the narrative that the drug companies and scientists are lying to us.

The 100% figure reported by the media is incredibly misleading. Worldwide, people already have and will continue to die due to the vaccine. That’s just the way this stuff works.

We will get shots later when the second gen of vaccines emerges and is under full use authorization. We get flu vaccines every year. Definitely not anti-Vax here.

The flu is more dangerous for kids than COVID.

You can also achieve herd immunity just by getting the virus and recovering, which is easy for kids.

I hope we are over all this soon. I would be a little cautious on Israeli data being applicable here. Same for Taiwan, Australia, NZ, etc. Israel is already sort of a police state with extremely tight immigration controls and a strong system of police checkpoints throughout the country. Vaccines are certainly helping there, but they have ways to control spread we really don't right now.

Thank goodness we are homeschooling now so we won't have to deal with being forced to have them vaccinated so they can return to school. It's simply wrong to force an EUA vaccine on children so they can go to school over a virus that barely even affects kids. Every adult is free to get the vaccine, and assuming they believe the efficacy numbers, they should feel very safe.

There is no way my kids are getting an emergency use authorization vaccine for a virus that is extremely mild for children. Just me.
