  1. The fact that Australia still has to lock down tight when the vaccines have been available to the developed world since January means their government failed them. People should be in the streets rioting to overturn their incompetent government instead of hiding in their homes over a small number of cases and barely any deaths. This is like if the US government failed to keep maintaining the bridges and told everyone they needed to take boats instead. Would you meekly go out and take a ride in a dinghy or demand better from your government? I agree with others saying they never took Aussies for being such compliant toads.
  2. No one is even really dying there. They are doing all of this over a small cluster of cases. It's a nation that has gone mad with fear.
  3. I have been to Split. It was pretty awesome. I love that side of the Adriatic. Montenegro is awesome too. Basically the same experience as being in Italy but much cheaper, less crowded, and the locals love tourists. Same food and climate too, basically.
  4. A buddy of mine runs a small scale farm brewery and the cleaning aspect was really far beyond what I had imagined. It's a big deal and consumes a lot of his time. He has had large batches ruined over some half-assed cleaning step that didn't seem like a big deal at the time.
  5. 6" of water in Randolph for July so far. It was definitely needed.
  6. You just know someone has gamed the system like that. COVID is a very reliable excuse to get out of basically anything. It literally got people out of jail.
  7. I envision a scenario where we spent a week somewhere and 24 hours before we leave, we have to take a COVID test. One of my kids (with no symptoms) pops off a positive test. Now we need to spend another 2 weeks locked in a hotel at our expense. That would be a small disaster and a big mess. Maybe that's not how things are being handled. Maybe the nice man at the airport will overlook the positive test and let us on the plane. Who knows?
  8. Doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm sure enforcement of this stuff is all over the place. I could also see hotels randomly demanding to see your test results or vaccine card at check-in. These rules can change fast, maybe even while you are on the plane...
  9. Pretty solid evidence that vaxx passports and the like are pointless.
  10. This does not seem like something that is worth risking. Just like the TSA with pat downs, they can grab you at any random time in the airport and demand to see your test results.
  11. Has your hot dog truck been hit by the Wisconsin burglars yet?
  12. Burglaries up 62% in San Fran, but don’t worry city residents, some guy from New England took a bike ride there last year and was fine so stop falling prey to social media fear mongering! https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/05/24/crime-and-punishment-fears-arise-as-burglaries-in-san-francisco-soar/
  13. You are probably like the people I know who live in Baltimore and try to tell me that getting mugged “isn’t that bad as long as you cooperate and they need the money more than you anyway.” Whatever helps you sleep at night. Wouldn’t catch me anywhere near a homeless encampment in San Fran right now, though. But not having me there means more room for you so win-win!
  14. The shoplifting in broad daylight there has gotten so bad most stores have to close.
  15. The violent crime stats get the headlines, but public spaces are chock full of little outbursts of less violent encounters now. Shoplifting, assault, bag/purse theft, car jacking, verbal harassment, etc. It’s simply a huge risky hassle to walk down the street in a place like San Fran now.
  16. Intervening to help someone is a little different than what I am saying, but still kinda risky. It will probably be fine, but there seems to be a greater chance these days of ending up being beaten senseless while someone records it on their iPhone.
  17. It happens. I see people yelling at retail workers and restaurant servers sometimes, for example. Some people may not view that as an aggressive move, but these days I don’t think it is worth having a confrontation with someone to simply “give them a piece of your mind.” Many people are on edge and could snap.
  18. People who say this go from an air conditioned house, to an air conditioned car, to an air conditioned office, back to an air coditioned car, back to an air conditioned house, all while wearing a hoodie because it is “a little chilly.”
  19. There is no one on earth who actually likes high humidity when outside. No one.
  20. It’s all fake and manipulated. LOL at the dopes who still think there are “natural market forces” at work.
  21. We six of us traveling, it’s not a fluke chance for one of us to flag a positive test. Then two weeks in a hotel. Too risky for us.
  22. It’s only an issue if we let it be one…
  23. Last minute changes like that are why we are not traveling overseas right now. Big risk of ending up stuck in a hotel for two weeks.
  24. Very glad to be homeschooling. Hope it all works out in the schools this fall. I expect a lot of bad decisions that hurt the kids but don't make anyone any safer.
