  1. Which party winning leads to a colder and snowy winter?
  2. When there is a fast flow without blocking i.e. 2015 longitude seems to help ema. Strong blocking seems to lead to lows closer to coast. Some examples Dec 2010. Dec 2000. Maybe I am off somehow in reasoning and it's just random storm tracks. Western and eastern New England seem to be equal in snow distribution over time.
  3. Yeah I know it's a good head start for sure. However 2011, 1989 and 2018 can happen just as easily as 1995. 2012. 2002. Got clobbered early all the aforementioned years and ended up with a split between great and terrible winters. Maybe all the la Nina, missing NAO talk has me extra tentative. Probably can throw out 2011 and 2002 as the background state is completely different. I did enjoy the snow the other day though. Hopefully we all end up with a solid winter - rooting for everyone.
  4. I could see that. I am skeptical of EMA getting a great snowfall winter though. I am thinking 75% across most of New England with exception of Main NH and Vermont which will be 125%. Hopefully I am wrong and it's 95 96 or 10-11.
  5. We do better than EMA when there is a negative NAO. Obviously we are not getting that this year sooooo we enjoy not snow blowing.
  6. Incredible storm for SW CT. Although hated losing power for 4 days for 5.5 inches. http://www.raymondcmartinjr.com/weather/2012/29-Oct-11.html
  7. I hope NYC does well this year also. Love when everyone shares in the wealth. Think you had them at 90% of average which is good.
  8. This is what happened during the 2011 Halloween storm. I lost power for 4 days trees and limbs down everywhere. Down here snowed a lot but did not stick.
  9. Is this the first time SNE has seen snow from the remnants of a hurricane?
  10. 97-98 here was 3.5. 1 inch less than 01-02 of 4.5 All snow here sw CT
  11. 11-12 would be an improvement snowfall wise over last year.
  12. Thanks for your analysis, you have been spot on recently. Although this time I hope you are off that was a terrible winter snowfall wise in lower half of SNE.
  13. I somehow lucked out with that Western CT strip that gave me 9.5 and Bridgeport 5.5 on the March 13 event. 0 10 9.5 2.5 April storm 6
  14. I remember watching channel 7 news and Lonny saying he believed the EURO was correct due to the small blow up next to Deleware. At least I ended up with 7 unlike Philly which was looking at 8 to 12 and getting 0. NYC I think ended up with 10 due to the initial piece staying south of us over LI.
  15. Great write up and radar! That winter in SW CT was overall a great winter with great March snowfall, even with the Feb. dissapointments. It's funny how the mind works, getting a solid 7 inches in the blizzard but feeling ripped off due to a poor forecast. Getting a solid 10.5 while eastern areas get 16. Snowfall ended up 166% of average.
  16. Thanks Don! 2016 2017 was a surprisingly good winter with 2 major snow events and above average snowfall for the year. Hopefully this winter mimic's.
  17. Had to borrow from MA thread. Half of CT likes la Nina half likes El nino. Maine really likes neutral.
  18. F Lowest snow total since 2001 2002. Third lowest snow total since I have been tracking in 1989 1990.
  19. I just received a trace of snow from latest snow squall!! Latest snow since 1977 here. Amazing.
  20. I am in Easton CT. Only 8.75 for the year. Lowest since 4.5 in 01/02.
  21. This one was actually worse than 2011/2012 There were only 2 events that winter, however they were larger and lead to a greater seasonal snowfall total. 2001/2002 horrific. I believe this winter is the 3rd lowest snowfall total in my lifetime (do not have the totals from the 1980s, however using central park as a guide by adding 10% to their totals no winter in the 80s was worse than this). 2015/2016 actually ended up average.
  22. They say the big ones are sniffed out early by the GFS
  23. Did anyone come close on their seasonal snowfall forecast for New England? I know Isotherm nailed the pattern perfectly, however was curious about snowfall (conscious that we still have March).
  24. I think NYC needed a specific amount this year to raise their 30 year average to 30. NYC is so vast the snowfall amounts in the City itself vary a lot. Coastal Brooklyn is probably closer to 22 while the Bronx around 30.
