    This is awesome thanks! I feel like the biggest difference is snow retention. Was watching old home movies from the 40s and my dad stated "we always had a white Christmas, you don't see that anymore", yet our snowfall averages are about the same. Of course in each home movie on Christmas day they had the year carved in the snow pack. Technically speaking of SW CT however I would imagine same general idea with a few more inches.

    NYC average rose from 27 In the 80s to about 30 now. Perhaps much earlier in the century it was more.

    Peaked my interest with 17/18. Probably my 4th favorite winter of all time. 56 inches total snowfall with 28 falling from March onwards. Early season snowfall. Great warmth for hearting savings and outdoor activities.

    I think western MD averages more snowfall than southeastern coastal CT, coastal RI. Probably elevation driven. Eastern MD far less of course (Baltimore etc). Your doing the opposite of what I want to do, which is move to somewhere warmer where I can boat/outdoor activities throughout more of the year. Love the Bethany/Fenwick area of Delaware.

    Off of your response I looked up the annual snowfall records for NYC. It's amazing how much more snow NYC has gotten this century as compared to the past.

    This was for SW CT. Definitely late November snowfalls on each occasion. Oddly enough I believe both years we had snow in April too.

    Hey Walt I believe 1995 and 2002 saw accumulating snow in November, each of which became great winters overall.

    Just hope the blockies last well into winter, and not fade as we hit Jan.

    I think in Hurricane Bob all the leaves came down in parts of Rhode Island, then re-grew and came down again later in fall. Terrible.

    Hopefully this will look the same and be snow this winter.

    Hoping for a 2008/2009 type gradient. Not sure what the background state was, however down here in SW CT (was in Norwalk at the time), had an above average snowfall season with a good amount of ice.

    Yeah, seems to definitely be a gradient too with Hartford slightly above/near average and Providence slightly below.

    Yeah we lucked out with the above average snowfall winter last year otherwise would have been 3 below average winters in a row. Still shocked to say I have experienced only 6 below average snowfall winters this century, so regression has to be in the cards.

    Just went through pages again for fun. Best storm for SW CT since March 2018. Hope for Neg. NAO again next year.

    Hope for the 08/09 analog to come true. Back to back above average snowfall seasons would be nice after the previous two winter's.

    B- 42 inches of snow. Great FEB. Good storm in December.

    Really it's been this way on average it seems since the start of the century. The previous 30 years was the opposite. For instance only 6 below average winter's here this century, however 7 below average winter's in the 90s. Pretty sure 80s and 70s were the same.

    10 inches of paste and tree fell on house. SW CT lost power for days.

    Everyone has an advantage somehow. Boston has better winter's while NYC and NJ have better springs. Everyone wins.

    I am at peace with it. Solid B- winter with above average snowfall when NINA was supposed to wreck Feb.

    Feel like it's a west to east thing. Upper li reporting snow rain mix while SW jersey is snow.
