  1. I'll start running when I see a smiling running. Every time I pass one they look like the face of agony. Glad you're enjoying one of the few HHH days we've had.
  2. Exactly and that was my point. He's claiming that people that like perfect CoC weather moved the goal posts when it's he that has moved the goal posts of HHH.
  3. I think we're on the same page on that. I just think that a top 10 day is different for each season. This morning is definitely not CoC weather...hopefully those that enjoy high dews are outside with A/C's off and absorbing as much sweat as possible.
  4. Everyone can have their interpretation but that term is been around longer than 2014. Here's a public mention of it in 2008: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Chamber of Commerce Weather It just means perfect weather to attract people to your location. That changes depending on the season and location, IMHO.
  5. Well, he can speak for himself but he didn't coin the term. I don't think the chamber of commerce in Stowe, VT would want to promote 75° weather day after day in January. Rather, I think it would want winter weather that month. However, it would want 72-75° with low humidity day after day in July.
  6. What are you talking about? Of course it changes. In winter CoC weather is winter weather with clear blue skies and people being able to recreate doing winter things. In the summer it's summer weather without too much humidity. What gave you the idea the the chamber wouldn't want perfect seasonable weather? That's all anyone is ever talking about. Besides, talk about moving goal posts, when did met summer start at the solstice? You also might want to fact check that's been hot since the solstice. I guess having highs in the 60s counts as hot now? Talk about moving the goal posts...
  7. By contrast, suddenly now 87/63 is HHH? HHH for now on was promised. "It's coming" "We warned people" I don't see how seasonally mild/slightly hot max temps in the upper 80s with a dp near 60 and overnight lows below normal translates to HHH. It's slightly AN and you have to admit the oppressive dp's have only appeared for brief windows.
  8. I think that some people forget that there's three ingredients to HHH.
  9. Are we using Boston forecasts now? BTW, even for BOS, Monday would be smack normal for the mean, not AN. Looks like a great stretch of summery weather and too humid overall.
  10. I had a St Bernard/Lab mix that loved the cold. Most of my previous dogs would sit outside in a hole they dug in the shade. This dog loved to stay inside when the A/C was on during the summer and outside during the winter. We used to shave the dog in the early summer so she would be cooler and then she'd have her full coat back by fall. I miss that dog...
  11. If it's that warm, then most would use an A/C if they had it. The problem is, most nights it hasn't been that warm. When the outside temp is in the low 60s and your A/C set point temperature is higher than that, why bother? If it's a window unit, it's going to just blow so why not have a fan blowing? FWIW, my overnight low was 59° and I ran a fan and felt perfectly fine all night.
  12. Speaking of water temps, I think it's impressive that parts of Lake Superior have water temps in the 30s in July: https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=45001 https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=45006
  13. Current temp is 68° in Woods Hole. Average July temp is 70°. Where do you get mid-70s? https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/natl_tmap.html
  14. My junior year at Lyndon there was a transfer student from Sunrise, FL (just outside of Fort Lauderdale). He had only seen snow once (late 70s) and that was falling. He specifically chose Lyndon because he wanted to experience winter. This kids response to everything was so funny. I remember the first night we had frost he came bursting in and said that everyone had to go outside that everything was covered with a dust that sparkled. Then when it snowed, I remember his first reaction to touching it - he said that it was colder than he thought it was. He thought it would be cottony and feel like air. There's nothing like an outsiders perspective on something!
  15. There was an event - I wish I could remember when - that they had to bring out plows in parts of Holyoke, MA. It's pretty rare but that's the one event I can remember, at least in New England. That's some impressive stuff though in Mexico!
  16. Looks like the pics didn't attach...I'd love to see those if you still have them.
  17. Looks like I'm a little too east for the best part of that cell in northern Tolland County. Looks like some hail? Perhaps Kevin will see some.
  18. Is that even real? I've seen pine pollen before but never in that quantity.
  19. He doesn't cool off there though. He's on a hill top. I'm often in the 50s and he's near 70 lol
  20. The people wondering about our fascination about air conditioners live in a place that requires it. They don't understand the concept of it cooling off at night enough to not warrant it. Central AC is great, but I find it stuffy. Sure it will cool off a room but the air doesn't move as much as having windows open or with a window unit. I also think that a window unit lowers the humidity more. I don't have any scientific proof on that but I have a lot of woodwork (110 year old house) and it gets sticky when its humid so I have window units that also act as dehumidifiers. The only problem I have is I'm an early riser and as such I go to bed earlier than most. If the day is really warm, there isn't enough time to cool off enough before I go to bed so I wind up using the AC on those nights. Otherwise, I turn on the central fan to air out the house and turn on one in my bedrooms and I'm fine. I wish the hill to my west was as big as the hill to your west.
  21. Same here except I've been running mine during the day with folks home during the day. The southern side of the house gets a little warm but nights have been great.
  22. FWIW, I started a summer thread so we don't have to use the spring thread in summer:
  23. I just noticed we never started a summer banter thread and were still using the spring one for general discussion so I decided to start a new one just for organizational sake. Hope everyone's been enjoying the CoC weather for the most part so far this summer!
