Sure - but the depth of the cold and the duration has verified barneys. It's just that...barneys like that tend to come at a dry cost. I saw that for the entire decade of the 80s in central Ohio - we popped -10s and -20s regimes several times that decade - and were dry as fuck each time. This isn't THAT cold but over here, it is not gonna be. But prolonged single digit lows area-wide is quite unusual for us and representative of the kind of cold that really isn't conducive to snow chances paradoxically.

fwiw, every time I see someone get all excited over barney purples for cold showing up on progs I roll my eyes so fucking hard - because that kind of cold sitting over us usually sucks total ass for snow and...POINTS AT THE CURRENT REGIME WE ARE IN...here we are. Barneys on the map are good for the Carolinas.

I make a motion that we as a board accept and understand that modeling the atmosphere given its dynamics and fluidness and wetness and dryness and butterfly farts and what not and putting that model in motion and expecting it to be spot on at any point more than 24 hours from any event for any one precise set of locations is a fool's hope and instead use the models for the tools they are to identify potential periods of unsettled weather and plan accordingly. Do I hear a second?

It’s pretty clear to me it’s gonna get kicked east - just based on weight of the modeling - weenie hope is that kicker isn’t modeled correctly due to lack of sampling lol- I’ve been on this board well longer than a bunch of the newer posters have been alive and I know what it means when we arrive at that scrap of hope…

10 so far in Fallston - but sometimes drops a few degrees from here oddly.

All obs this year for me are from Fallston, MD - 11/30 - T 12/2 - A little frz rain to start - trees and car glazed - but 35 and rain for most of event 12/5 - T (dusting from a few hours of flurries as dry cold death air ate any chance of anything else north of BWI 12/14 - 4” 1/2 - .2" (frontal passage snow squall dealie 1/17 - .7" 1/18 - .5" 1/25 - 10" (six inches of snow pre-flip around 10 am and four inches of sleet on top - precipitation from 2 am until about 8 pm) Running season total - 15.4”

Good call - a few minutes after reading this some very light snow is falling.

Gonna go with 9.5” fof my part of Fallston. Six of that snow reminder that unreal sleet part of the storm.

I cleared once - two since I cleared after about an inch. I may be undershooting it but it is roughly accurate - as accurate as I can be in these conditions lol…

That helps. I think I am 3 inches of sleet - and I had it for six inches of snow pre-flip so 9” for my part of Fallston which lines up well with your obs and Kay’s.
