  1. Herd immunity has worked for tens of thousands of years...its our god complex that we have that makes us believe we can beat this with medicine. And I wouldn't consider Sweden far right (or myself for that matter. hell i don't even own a gun)...I'm all for advances in healthcare but were not technologically advanced enough yet to cure diseases. Only one disease is currently classified as eradicated, smallpox.
  2. Hes multiplying the .8% death rate by 330M, everyone gets it at highest death rate, and .6% death rate by 165M, half of everyone gets it at lowest death rate.
  3. You realize how many industries that will be completely crushed going this route? Airlines are going bankrupt. I'd bet that half of them stateside are gone by the time this over. Meanwhile you have entire countries on their way to bankruptcy do to the lack of tourism. Russia will be bankrupt in a matter of months because of oil prices. I don't think you fully understand how dangerous slowing the global economy down like this is. This is how wars start.
  4. Completely agree. I do think that if wefind that it doesn't give you immunity that we still need to find a way to put the low risk population back to work while we attempt to create a vaccine or therapeutic remedy.
  5. Herd immunity could be accomplished by putting america back to work and isolating those at risk with underlying conditions. You could purposely inoculate healthy young low risk volunteers to speed the process, once a case study has been completed to determine that recovering gives you immunity. The alternative is that we stay shutdown until we have a vaccine that there is no guarantee of coming. The best years of the flu vaccine only are about 60% effective. So do we stay shutdown for the next year to save 1M people aged 70 and up? That doesn't make sense to me.
  6. The rate will stay at .6-.8% regardless of social distancing unless the hospital systems become overwhelmed. Only the infection rate changes when social distancing is relaxed.
  7. Very true, especially considering how much higher the mortality rate is with this when comorbidities are present like diabetes and obesity.
  8. So if only 50% of the population in the US gets this we should expect about 1M deaths...
  9. Huge numbers coming out of other countries today. Spain with 7k more cases. Ecuador doubled overnight to 22k. I can see the death toll in India reaching millions. No widespread testing and people simply can’t socially distance.
  10. He needs to stick to a script. I have no idea what disinfectant he’s talking about but we already use UV light curtains at entry points and headspace air filtration in food plants. We were just joking yesterday at lunch that some company is going to capitalize on selling them residentially.
  11. About to get worse. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/state-local-governments-layoffs
  12. I think its only 20% in NY, and mainly downstate as upstate is only at 3.6%. The numbers for herd immunity Ive seen are 60%.
  13. You just said the same thing that I did, that clots are preventing the blood from entering the lungs and exchanging oxygen. This virus isn't directly reducing lung capacity by attacking cells in the lungs. Furthermore, these two articles that I posted previously still haven't been addressed by you, and both hypothesize that the virus is directly affecting blood cells. Not reproducing in them and destroying them so that you'd see hemolysis, but reducing their ability to carry oxygen. https://chemrxiv.org/articles/COVID-19_Disease_ORF8_and_Surface_Glycoprotein_Inhibit_Heme_Metabolism_by_Binding_to_Porphyrin/11938173 https://web.archive.org/web/20200405061401/https://medium.com/@agaiziunas/covid-19-had-us-all-fooled-but-now-we-might-have-finally-found-its-secret-91182386efcb
  14. Ok then you should be able to explain why you disagree with my hypothesis, instead of hand waving. I'm listening, and if it makes sense I'll agree with you.
  15. We'll be lucky to put half of these people back to work in the next year. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/23/economy/unemployment-benefits-coronavirus/index.html
  16. Show me where I mentioned "red blood cells". My point has only been that this virus isn't attacking the lung cells, that its attacking blood cells. If you actually read the early articles I posted the one talks about the virus inhibiting the ability of blood to carry iron, which is necessary for maintaining oxygen levels. This latest article I posted offers a different theory as to why the blood wont transport oxygen, that being that small clots are preventing circulation through the lungs. So yes its hypoxemia, one way or the other. And since you're implying that you know more about the subject, what are your credentials? Are you or are you married to someone with a degree in medicine? Or work at an executive level in healthcare? Because coming here and simply stating someones incorrect without a fact based rebuttal or offering an alternative solution is pretty asinine.
  17. Yup that and diabetes. Unfortunately I think just the opposite is happening right now with everyone sitting at home and stress eating.
  18. @cny rider https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/22/health/strokes-coronavirus-young-adults/index.html You sure it’s not attacking blood cells?
  19. First it’s voluntary and then it’s mandatory, being offered then enforced by seniority.
  20. Both catholic and kaleida health started the process today, effective Sunday. That kaleida health number is wrong too. It’s closer to 12k including physicians.
  21. Meanwhile the areas largest employer, an essential employer, is laying off 20% of their staff.
  22. What the hell is wrong with you? its about Hypoxemia as a result of Covid, which is what I’ve been saying. try again.
