So my wife and I are supposed to be heading to the Biltmore on Sunday but with all the concerns of decent snow on Sunday we decided to head up a day early. Hopefully we have made a good decision even with the added cost of an additional day in a motel.
I agree. Areas in the Mountains like Boone are going to get pounded. Foothills and points eastward not so much. Still too early in the season for big winter storms for us.
I, for the first time ever, is hoping for no snow for NC. Why you ask? My wife and I are heading to Asheville Sunday for the Biltmore Candlelight Christmas. I have non-refundable hotel rooms as well as the tickets. I hate driving in snow.
Peak wind gusts from around the region. https://twitter.com/NWSEastern/status/1050793498885201921?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1050793498885201921&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.city-data.com%2Fforum%2Fhurricanes%2F2973087-atlantic-michael-forms-october-7-2018-a-15.html%23post53353644
All I got to say about that video is WOW. Notice how all the structures on the opposite side of the road as well as most of the road are gone. I am impressed that the camera stayed put and recorded all of it.
Winds have really back off but still blowing occasionally up into the 30's. Not as bad as earlier. Hopefully we are done with the big gusts. Pressure is going up, now at 29.46 Now get that front thru here.
We have had some pretty substantial gusts here within the past 30 minutes. Power went out for about a minute but now back on. Wind is howling. Airport recording gusts in the high 40's. Pressure down to 29.39.
Winds have been in the 20-30 mph range most of the afternoon. About 15 minutes ago, a nice squall line came thru with torrential rains and wind gusts easily about 40 mph. Only picked up .16" from it though.
It died for me too. ABC news said it made landfall as a 155 mph storm but commented that the NHC will look over all the data to see if the storm stays as a cat 4 or is upped to a cat 5.
