  1. Finally under 30 in parts of the DC. 29/15
  2. Ripping downtown near the WH, not much in terms of accumulation though. The weather station near my place in NW is a full 4 degrees cooler than DCA right now. 35/33 at DCA, 31/31 at home.
  3. Inbound stratus angle.. that's gotta be a new one for the weenie handbook
  4. Temps in WV and central VA are significantly lower than forecast right now.. white line is freezing, blue is 30. Note that it's averaged out over a decent area so there's heat islands somewhat under-represented here.
  5. 38/18 here in NW DC for the past hour.
  6. the 23z run has the surface low ~150 miles northwest of the rest of guidance riding the Apps at hour 18. That's why it's so warm. As others have said, it's outside of its useful range.
  7. same here!! It was my senior year of high school. I'd always been a snow weenie, like keeping a snowfall journal at the age of 10 level of weenie, but that one sticks out and got me into the actual science. Great memories. I had to go knock snow off the lower limbs of a massive loblolly in my neighbors yard so they wouldn't snap off. My parents also had my brother and I shovel the driveway at the "halfway" point sometime in the middle of the night. Enjoyed every minute of that storm. I remember 02-03 well but was too young to really get into this stuff. We did build an igloo that year though
  8. I think most people on this board would agree we have had an exceptionally long and active severe season this year... well into August now. Just because your back yard got missed by a couple miles a handful of times, doesn't mean Sterling isn't doing their job well. A warning is just that.. a warning. They are telling you there is potential in your area for severe weather. It's up to the individual to look at radar, a weather app, or the sky. People need to take some personal responsibility for their safety. If someone deems it a false warning for their backyard then so be it. You can't blame that on NWS. You aren't required to take their advice. As a "youth" I can tell you I'm very appreciative when my phone has a message that pops up saying I just got boxed for severe. I don't think anyone is crying wolf. I think we're just witnessing the natural progression of forecasting which is higher detail on a smaller scale. There are inherently going to be more "misses" with that approach because of the increased volume... but it's more accurate overall.
  9. So the suggestion here is for NWS to only warn storms after they've already happened? Makes sense to me
  10. It's been a great month. We got an extended period that I would actually call spring before going to 80+ and high dews. It seems like we've been robbed of this the past few years. I hope it continues well into May.
  11. He thinks his sad little life might be better if he could just make everyone else around him as miserable of a human being as he is. Angry, bitter people want to spread their unhappiness.
  12. He enjoys misery and misery loves company. Same song and dance the past two winters.
  13. There's quite a few posts aging like a fine wine right now. #SunAngleGang
  14. Downtown near Farragut was all rain 30 mins ago. Took the metro 2 miles (and ~150ft in elevation) up Connecticut Ave to Woodley Park and it was all snow. Brutal cutoff for the lowlanders. Edit: I've got a dusting on all surfaces on the north side of my building, sidewalk included!
  15. yeah the NAM twins don't even have this batch shown at all. They don't have precip making it to DC until 2-3pm. I was surprised to look out the window and see flakes just now downtown...
  16. well the 3k has your ambient temps peaking at 33F tomorrow... Cloud cover is in place by 9am.
  17. Seems like you might've skipped that class. Ever heard of specific heat? The capacity of the ground is about 2.5-3x that of the air right now given how wet the soil is. Yea there's heat transfer but 5 hours of ~35 degree air before precip isn't going to do much. I'm a full time engineer. I eat energy transfer for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  18. Longtime lurker, occasional poster, DC resident, and your mom's fave lover, anything else? The threat might be weak sauce but it won't be because what falls immediately melts.
  19. Oh come on dude. This might be the most consistently disproven notion to ever exist on this forum. As someone who has been here a while you should know that. Let's talk numbers... ground temps were around 40 degrees heading into Sunday where you live. They'll be hovering around freezing for this one. Tell us again how that will have zero impact. If it comes down as advertised on the 3k, it will stick.
  20. Ice pellets and mangled flakes trying to mix in here in NW DC. Closest weather station has the temp down to 34. It was 39 at noon. DCA is still @ 40 lol
  21. aka 'Fatties', 'Parachutes', etc. big clumps of wet snow
