I guess one of the big differences is if you look at the arctic outbreaks from 30 years ago (mid 1990s), you saw air temps in the -30s and -40s in the upper plains states and widespread subzero readings along the coastal plain in the east. Just doesn't seem to have the same punch (although it's time perfectly with a storm in the gulf to give them a rare snowstorm).
DCA with its first sub freezing high and sub 20 temp of the year today. Currently 19F (20F at the 8pm ob, but it has no doubt dropped to 19 now).
15.6F here. Single digits likely in the colder areas inside the beltway.
Yeah skiing when it's below zero actually isn't very much fun. I once was in Killington when it was -20F to -25F and it was awful. Like - we did a few runs and were like, OK, that's enough.

not sure if you're a Caps fan, but we are looking good! O's look to have another strong season! We still have quite a bit of winter left, and it seems to want to be cold and snowy this year!
