  1. https://thebalsamsresort.com/senate-passes-balsams-bill/#more-4554 Beautiful spot, it would be great to see it reopen
  2. Heavy rain and temperature in the 30s. Gotta love April.
  3. Lol same here. Raw day. 38 and drizzly. Yuck
  4. Yes it looked like it was just shedding to me
  5. Eek... That's rather gnarly
  6. Spring melt bringing visitors
  7. Driving to Conway. Still a solid foot + in the Notch. I'm so glad I live higher up lol
  8. A couple of pictures. First one is one of our trails. I now that with a John Deere lol. You can see the debris from the old flood. To the right it’s normally a 5-6 foot bank. The area below is right by where I tap the maples; the river had just breached here so I could literally see the water pouring in. The great news - almost completely snow free now!
  9. Exactly my thinking. It’s at about 8 feet today, and there was anywhere between a foot and 3 feet water in my yard in 2017. Above 10 ft is when trouble starts. I’ve started flood proofing everything - all generators are now raised, and my new house that I’m building is about 2 feet higher than the water line from that flood. Still nerve wrecking when it happens though.
  10. Yes. I’ve been watching the river go over its banks at my property, actually very interesting to watch. Doesn’t seem to be rising anymore. Most sections are right at the top of the bank, which is generally a 6 foot or so cliff. The beach areas are of course completely unreachable. Gave me a better sense of where the river breaches. Another 2 feet or so and it would be at the house.
  11. It's been a fantastic season. The glades did not close once from Thanksgiving to closing day - that's remarkable for no snowmaking trails with lots of natural obstacles (rocks and logs) that need to be buried for them to be open. As most places, however, the past few weeks have seen a huge dropoff in skiers - even with the great conditions. The few that came up loved it - great conditions and no crowds! But it's hard to justify from a business perspective. Granted, conditions got destroyed this weekend anyways!
  12. No, Monday was the last day. They've actually plowed a bunch of the trails now to continue construction on the new gondola.
  13. Same here. Just drove by the ski resort and there is a torrent pouring out of the snowcat entrance to the trails. Looks like the worst of the rain has moved out, we'll see how the river responds. It's just about bankfull now, another 4 feet in rise and I'm toast.
  14. About 2 miles downstream. That's Upper Falls, a local cliff diving hangout
  15. I know. Anxiety level is high! I’m hoping for some downsloping to decrease the intensity a bit but it’s going to be a rough afternoon
  16. The Ammo is roaring. A tree trunk made its way down as we were watching, sounded like thunder. No flooding yet but that could quickly change this afternoon.
  17. 55/44 here. Feels fantastic!
  18. Sorry if it wasn't clear. I wasn't saying people HERE make fun of lynching and gas chambers, but in today's environment, it's becoming more and more OK to say whatever one wants with no respect for what it means to others - and there are plenty of things on this board that are said that really shouldn't, as PF pointed out. We as a society are as divided and nonchalant about other people's suffering as ever. We shouldn't be. My message was in response to people saying "oh, it's all good, he was just joking." There are things that people shouldn't joke about. Other people's pain is not something we should joke about, whether it's the pain of 3 million people or the pain of a single person. You may think that's off the deep end, I think it's civility and at this point in history, we can all use a little bit more of it.
  19. Correct; we had a flash flood last year that got within a foot of the all-time record for the Ammo. Now, I'm actually not that concerned about my life in this upcoming event - why? Because first of all, the only damage was to equipment and basements, and I have flood insurance. My life was never at risk since the water never even made it inside the first floor of my current house, and my new house is being built higher up than that. BUT that said, we didn't know this at the time. I had never been through a flood, let alone here. It was scary because we had been told that this area doesn't flood (lawsuit pending on that), and when you see a wall of water coming at you, rising about 6" every 10 minutes, you have NO idea what to do when you haven't been in it before. We thought we could end up like those people you see on top of a roof - or worse, dead. While we now know we were never in danger, hindsight is 20/20. Situations like that remind you that those scenes that we see on TV, that seem so distant and unlikely - those are REAL people. We are lucky enough that we could afford to fix the $80,000 or so in damage we received - but not everyone is. And some people do lose their lives, and you could be the next one. There is no point in joking about something that can kill you or your neighbor - at least on a public forum, where your neighbor could be reading. It's OK to wish for snow. It's not OK, in my book, to wish for an accident to kill a family. I would not wish it, and even less would I post it. It's not about thick skin or thin skin, it's about not knowing who you could be upsetting. At least, that's how I choose to live my life and you're all welcome to disagree. We can all joke about KKK and lynching and Auschwitz and raping and child abuse, but why??? Are you really that desperate for attention that you'd rather take the chance of bothering someone than stick to non-hurtful comments (which by the way, this poster had made directly to me before - hence some sensitivity). Are you that dim that you can't find something actually funny to say but still have to post anyways? Once again, it's about how you choose to live your life. But most importantly, this is a weather forum, not comedy central. This poster has yet to make a single worthy weather-related post and has the wit of a 12 year old. I'm not amused, but hey, I've already put him/her on the ignore list, so I'm done caring about it.
  20. It's not funny. Would you find it funny if someone posted about your kids or your family being harmed?
  21. Can we not ban posters who wish harm on others? Comments like that should not have place on a public forum
  22. Down the Ammo. That area is windswept and in full sun, it clears out fast (and sometimes doesn't accumulate snow if it's windy). A camera pointing in a different direction would show this. Which will ALSO be gone by the weekend!
  23. This could be a long weekend for us (my house is on The Ammonoosuc). It's part of living on the flood plain, but not the fun one
  24. Bretton Woods reported 202-244. Loon should definitely be lower. My total is a bit higher than 177 - I haven't updated in a while but certainly lower than 200.
