  1. Just measured ~0.15" ice accretion on tree branches. About the same on top of the snow cover. Pretty cool to break ice sheets off the top of the snow.
  2. Steady light freezing rain at 30.5° is glazing things up nicely here now that the sun is down.
  3. CLI report says DCA recorded 2.6" today. At 16.6" for the season now, there are only 6 winters in the past 31 years with more snowfall than this year at the airport.
  4. I measured a total of 0.76" of liquid from the 5.7" of snow that fell this a.m. That's a ratio of 7.5:1
  5. The thunder snow this morning ranks this one up there with the best < 6" events I have experienced. It wasn't the muffled thunder you sometimes get in winter. It was legit.
  6. SN+ with 1/4 mile visibility. 5.3" on the ground. 7:00 -- 0.5" 8:00 -- 1.3" 9:00 -- 3.2" 10:00 - 4.3" 11:00 - 5.3"
  7. Just had a flash of lightning followed by a loud crash of thunder. eta: more flashes and loud thunder ongoing
  8. Snow began here just before 6:00 a.m. Almost 2" accumulated in the past hour. 7:00 -- 0.5" 8:00 -- 1.3" 9:00 -- 3.2"
  9. Best rates/ lowest visibility of this winter right now. Temp still dropping, down to 27. ETA: house across the street is about 350' from my front door and is barely visible at the moment.
  10. 0.5" for the 7:00 a.m. Cocorahs report. Heavy snow now with 1/4 mile visibility. Back down to 28 degrees.
  11. Spotter in Petersburg, WV already reporting 2" on the ground.
  12. Light snow and a freshening breeze. Temp up to 30.6 from 28 earlier. Should dip back as precip becomes steadier.
  13. 29/9 with high clouds covering the full moon. LWX mentioning 2" per hour rates here tomorrow morning.
  14. 32/8. Baro 30.58” with a light northerly breeze at 3 mph.
  15. Finished with 6.8" on 0.54" of liquid. Big totals weren't far from me. From the PNS: Martinsburg 2 E 11.7 1000 PM 1/13 NWS Employee Martinsburg Arpt 1 N 10.6 1144 PM 1/13 Trained Spotter
  16. 2" of new snow this afternoon/ evening. 6.1" storm total. Over 50% of the way to climo for the season !
  17. 2.6" for the day, which puts me right at 10" for the season. Big flakes falling in this band but visibility is still 1.0 mi +
  18. About a half-inch on the ground. Flake size has increased the past few minutes.
  19. Light snow just started. 32 degrees at onset.
  20. 25/12 with a rising barometer at 30.39". Winds that have been gusting for 72 hours finally died down with sunset. 48 hours below freezing has frozen the ground pretty nicely.
  21. Sure did ! As your Boom thread notes, its been a great stretch for March snows. Hopefully next year will bring a better distribution of snow throughout the winter season.
  22. I edited my original post, but through Saturday's event there are now 6 winters in the past 93 years in this area with a lower total than what I have measured this season. Still a pretty rough year, but hoping for at least one more snowfall in March.
  23. As the rain falls on this February evening it seemed like the right time to bump this. Here is the mountain to climb to avoid one of the worst snowfall seasons ever in my area (currently 3rd lowest since 1925) #80: 1987-88 9.9" #81: 1991-92 9.5" #82: 1975-76 9.4" #83: 2011-12 8.4" #84: 1994-95 8.0 #85: 1949-50 8.0 #86: 1937-38 7.7" #87: 2017-18: 7.3" #88: 1954-55 6.7" #89: 1930-31 5.7" #90: 2008-09 5.1" #91: 2001-02 4.9" #92: 1972-73 3.0" #93: 1931-32 1.4" Edited through 2/17
  24. Hagerstown finished 2017 over 6" below normal for precip for the year. That was after 12" below normal in 2016. Ever since the blizzard in January 2016 we haven't only been lacking in WSW events. In general, we have been lacking in consistent precip. Really hoping we can break the cycle early in 2018. Otherwise, issues are going to present this spring and summer.
