  1. LWX upped my point forecast from 'up to an inch' to 'around an inch'. Must have seen the 18Z suite.
  2. Had a high of 50 here today but already down to 41 with crystal clear skies and diminishing winds. DP is down to 14 !
  3. No backing down on the brine out this way. I 81 has all lanes brined from Winchester to here.
  4. Had some flurries blow through earlier. Temp is 35 and hasn’t budged since sunrise. Winds still gusting to 40+
  5. Most extreme event was a microburst that hit my neighborhood on 8/18. Definitely not a "favorite" event because it left some pretty costly damage.
  6. I've kinda been expecting a dog of a winter this year. We have been on a pretty good heater here for a while. I have averaged 33.8" for the past 10 winters vs a long-term average of around 26". Five of those winters have been greater than that 33" average. Just been hoping for a 15-20" type season and not one of those 5-10" years.
  7. Wife and kids and I biked about 15 miles on the Western Maryland Rail Trail on Christmas Eve. Weather was perfect for that kind of ride. If you ever have a chance to get up this way, it's a beautiful (paved) 26-mile path that parallels the C & O Canal.
  8. 5th day in a row here with a high temp in the 30's, and 8 of the last 10 days. MRB has (temporarily) gone below-normal for the month now.
  9. When the STJ got cranking mid-January it was a lot of fun. There was a 1-2" rainstorm on Sunday into Monday, followed by the heavy wet snow on Thursday. Then the bottom fell out of the temps. The second snowstorm on Sunday that fringed your area started with temps in the teens, and afterward there were a couple of below-zero nights outside of the cities. I had 12"+ from both of the storms in Silver Spring.
  10. Coldest morning of the season so far. 14.8°
  11. That's a noble pursuit. I put a snow stick out every winter. Some years it doesn't get much use, but it's always good to have. Twice I have seen a 36" stick completely covered: January 1978 in western Md. and February 2010 here. January 2016 fell about an inch shy before it compacted.
  12. Pretty vigorous snow shower here. Quick coating on all surfaces after a cold day. High was 35.
  13. Flurries here for much of the morning. 31 degrees with a WC of 21.
  14. Over an inch of liquid for the event now. 2.82" for December.
  15. Been locked in at 32.2 degrees all afternoon and evening here. Even with a pouring rain for several hours there is still a decent amount of snow cover and even some still hanging in the trees, particularly the pines.
  16. With 1.7" this morning, my yard has its snowiest December since 2013. In fact, 1.7" matches the total of the past 5 Decembers combined.
  17. Mix line moving north on I-81. Now between Inwood and Martinsburg. Winchester has freezing rain. Still all snow here.
  18. Light snow and 31 degrees. 1.5" on the ground.
  19. IAD reporting light snow with their 11:52 ob.
  20. 1-2” per hour per the mesoscale discussion from SPC.
  21. Hit a high of 46 before noon. Down to 39 now with a dewpoint of 21 under clear skies. Looks like it should be cold enough for any/all moisture that makes it here.
  22. These are just ones I personally experienced: December 31-Jan 1, 1970 was a 6-12" snowfall for I-95 between DC and Baltimore. January 5, 1980 was a 4-8" storm. January 7-8, 1988 was generally 6-8". December 27-28, 1990 was 5-8". There were others, like January 2, 1925 (6-10"), and December 26-27, 1909 (8-12") and quite a few more that were 3-6" storms.
