  1. they have it purple because they aren't sure yet as of the MD whether it will be red/blue. Even the text just says "watch likely" with 95% chance. yesterday they clearly said tornado watch likely.
  2. thank you for sharing! thats a great shot. and yeah, some of those storms up north last night were no joke.
  3. yesterday was the 12th day in a row of at least 8 or more tornadoes reported. last time that happened was 1980. its been an active stretch.
  4. If I was able to travel to see better storms, I'd go up to Allentown and hang out there to see what pops.
  5. missed out on the early stuff, popped up just to my north and went east. but i did get a little from the stuff that came out of PA around 10pm or so. heck of a gust front ahead of it, followed by some T&L and brief, but heavy, rain. it watered the garden, so no complaints. i like it. sounds about right given the set up.
  6. a small gust of wind will break a bradford pear branch lol they break so easily we ain't seeing anything today man. put your eggs into tomorrows basket
  7. why? being under a watch doesn't dictate that you will, or will not see, some type of weather.
  8. a 50/20 watch to our north lol doubt we see much today
  9. man, i am in severe weather mapping mode now lol
  10. picked up 0.0 over the weekend, including the sunday night stuff that passed to my south. i could have walked to the rain lol nice little downpour of rain this morning made for a fun drive to work. overcast now with no optimism for storms later today
  11. I dont see anything wrong with an automated tweet, if its coming from NWS Tornado or something. But putting out their own tweet with poor wording is really bad practice for a police department.
  12. well thats because UMD pays Accuweather to be their private forecast company. Accuweather issued a tornado warning when NWS did not and UMD shared it.
  13. easy, it got picked up by someone with a ton of followers and being shared all over the web.
  14. That first picture is also more bowed, while the second is more elongated.
  15. did they? good. I never went back to look to see what kind of responses they got. i get the need to tweet out that UMBC was under a warning, especially with graduation ongoing. But it such a horribly worded tweet.
  16. lol theres no way that is from yesterday -- the tornado was part of an embedded cell in a massive squall line. there would't have been the light behind it like that. it wasn't discrete.
  17. I have a friend, who is also a luker here, who works in the area. He sent me a text this morning telling me he was inside a tornado lol us weather nerds are funny. oh well, it is only May. Weve got the summer to get the goods.
  18. You, sir, were in a tornado! the freshly cut grass smell is pretty common given the amount of greenery that is displaced. Glad you're okay! And hopefully your location didn't take on too much damage. I believe that is because it crosses into the next CWA area. happens all the time. they died. I was up until after 1130, saw one of the tornado warned storms and the line dropping southeast. they were weakening as they got closer to the MD/PA line. I could see the lightning up near Harrisburg and points west, but it all stopped on approach. oh well.
  19. Dont come stirring pots in here. It’s one of the few remaining severe threads worth a damn.
  20. colleges need to stop tweeting weather advisories, wtf is this? is UMBC even under a warning right now?
