well we know that most media outlets run with the most dire headlines as it gets clicks and viewers. hopefully most people are getting their information across multiple platforms and not just the nightly news.

right, but thats for people who have died in a hospital. those dying at home won't be counted as part of covid related deaths until they test for it postmortem. presumptive cases are not part of the daily counts.

i guess there was a lot of "see, I told you it wasn't as bad as you all made it out to be" yesterday because the death projections dropped. people are dumb

well to be fair, we vaccinate for the flu and its become part of seasonal colds that we prepare and take precautions over. SARS and MERS aren't widely spread unless a big outbreak occurs and if so, then people take extra precautions to limit spread. the same will be done with covid. eventually there will be a vaccination that people will get and plan for every year as i imagine it will continue to pop up moving forward in time. regarding your last point: do you think that perhaps the mortality rate is so low because we've taken the steps to socially distance therefore limiting spread? we may never know the full scope of who got sick and died from covid since we know that there are stories of people not even making it to a hospital and are dying at home. those deaths arent included in daily counts unless they've been tested postmortem to know.

this. its going to have to be a process to open things back up and attempt to get back to normal. but it wont be normal for a while. it is a marathon, not a sprint. you open everything back up at once and we will have another spike in cases and so on.

what specific risk exposures are you talking about regarding every day life that would compare to a highly contagious virus that is killing people?

shes not a good teacher. weve had our issues with her over the course of the year. she doesn't reply to emails, shes horrible at schedules. and apparently, she texts a lot during class. last week mini-map wanted to play school. so we did. she gave us some art assignments (so cute) but while we were working she was on her play phone the whole time. I jokingly asked and she said "my teacher is on her phone all the time in class, so just following what i've seen" unreal
  11. i hadn't looked at radar at all, it broke apart and most went south of me. oh well.

you're a good teacher. my kid's teacher can barely stick to the schedule she set for virtual class times. she's changed the time 3x now and then cancelled one day 30 minutes before it was to start.... let alone actually reach out to them to check how they are doing.
  13. yeah i guess that skinny squall line finally hit here. Windy, no thunder, raining. But sun is already trying to come out behind it.

Yup, i could see that being a good way to tackle it too. I feel you! Its hard for us too, both my husband and I work all day too, and then give her attention, etc as much as we can. Its not easy! But don't give up hope, you guys will make it work however you can!

you can't have students repeat a year that was almost 3 quarters done. in the end parents will complain no matter the decision, but if it was me, just pass them all and start next year fresh.

weve had okay success. virtual class with a bunch of first graders is hectic, but they only do that once a week. mini-map's teachers all put together packets upon packets of stuff to do, but its all electronic. we are still waiting for the actual papers to come home. there is only so much my kid can do online, she needs to sit and do stuff on paper. so, we've done what we can until that paperwork comes in the mail. of course, every situation is different. my kid is in first grade, so i'm not terribly concerned she isn't learning enough. we have her do plenty.

ha, was coming to post the same news. I imagine MD will follow suit, but may not announce right away. IMO: they just pass everyone and start next year fresh. Maybe do some review of what the kids should have been learning, but just move forward. Kids cant repeat years, you can't hold back seniors from graduating, etc. It won't be pretty but I dont know how else they do it.

I've seen Hogan's communication people mention it more frequently the last two days, about them looking into schools reopening in the fall. we are planning that mini-map will not be going back to school this academic year. we just haven't said it out loud to her.
  21. I def have a box of steak ums in the freezer. They are greasy and gross yet somehow perfect, just as I remembered them growing up.

This is not certain, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. However, I think parents with kids should discuss that chance amongst themselves. My husband and I have.

    COVID-19 Talk

The last two weeks I’ve gone mid afternoon on (both times Thursday’s by chance) and I had a hard time finding the necessities i went this morning at open and got everything on my list except ground beef and lunch meat. TP was slim pickings but everything else was stocked. I go to Walmart in Shrewsbury, PA so it’s ruralish and it depends on when stores restock.
  24. my davis needs to be sent off for repair. it doesn't hold the solar charge at night anymore. was going to send it just before this all happened but now just going to wait it out. so my station is pretty much useless at night lol
